Trip to Fier, Albania
Day 1: Arrival and Exploring Fier
After arriving in Fier, take some time to settle into your accommodation and get familiarized with the city. Fier is located on the banks of the Seman River and is surrounded by rolling hills and mountains, so you can start your sightseeing by just walking around and taking in the scenery. For those interested in shopping, the Pazari i Ri (New Market) is a great place to find traditional Albanian souvenirs, while for those interested in nightlife, there are a variety of bars and clubs to choose from.
Day 2: Apollonia Archeological Park and Berat Castle
Head to the nearby Apollonia Archeological Park, located approximately one hour drive from Fier. This is one of the most important ancient sites in Albania which features an impressive collection of Greek and Roman ruins dating back to the 4th century BC. Later in the day, head to the city of Berat, known as the “City of a Thousand Windows” and the “Museum City”. Here, you can visit the Berat Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that contains several impressive Byzantine churches and Ottoman-era mosques.
Day 3: Gjirokastra Castle and Old Bazaar
Take an excursion to Gjirokastra, a medieval town located approximately two and a half hours drive from Fier. Here you can visit the Gjirokastra Castle, which dates back to the 12th century and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The castle contains many historical monuments, such as the Museum of Weapons, Vintage Armory and the Ethnographic Museum. After visiting the castle, head to the Old Bazaar, which is situated on the hillside and contains many shops selling traditional Albanian handicrafts, as well as cafes and restaurants.
Day 4: Llogara National Park
Today, you can take a day trip to Llogara National Park, a dense forested area spanning the Ceraunian Mountains. The park is known for its diverse wildlife and stunning views of the Albanian Riviera. Popular activities here include hiking, trekking or just taking a scenic drive through the park and stopping at the many viewpoints to take in the panoramic vistas of the coastline.
Day 5: Kruja City and Castle
Travel to Kruja City, a picturesque hilltop town located approximately two hours drive from Fier. Kruja is famous for being the birthplace of Albania’s national hero, Skanderbeg, and also for the Kruja Castle which played a significant role during the 15th-century resistance against Ottoman invasion. The castle houses a museum showcasing Albanian history, culture and traditions.
Day 6: Beach Day in Vlora
Spend a day at the beach in Vlora, Albania’s second largest port city, located approximately one hour drive from Fier. Vlora has a beautiful coastline with clear turquoise water and several sandy beaches to choose from, including Plazhi i Vjeter (Old Beach) and Plazhi i Ri (New Beach). You can relax on the beach or take part in some of the water sports available, such as kayaking, snorkeling or diving.
Day 7: Departure
Pack up and head to Tirana International Airport (TIA) for your departure flight or make any other plans you might have for the final day.
