Trip to St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda

Day 1: Arrival and Relaxation

After arriving at V.C. Bird International Airport and checking in to your hotel, you may need some time to unwind from your travels, so why not spend the day relaxing on one of the pristine beaches of Antigua? One option is Jolly Beach, which features crystal-clear turquoise waters against a backdrop of lush green hills. Lounge on the soft sand, soak up the sun, and take a dip in the refreshing sea before grabbing lunch at one of the beachside eateries.

Day 2: Explore the Capital, St. John’s

Today, take a stroll through the colorful capital city of St. John’s, where you’ll find buildings painted in vibrant shades of pink, purple, and yellow. Start at the famous red-brick cathedral, the St. John’s Anglican Cathedral, which is located on the highest point of the city and offers beautiful panoramic views of the harbor. Visit the Museum of Antigua and Barbuda, where you can learn about the island’s history and culture. Next, head over to the Public Market, where you’ll find local produce, handicrafts, and souvenirs.

Day 3: Adventure to the Past with Nelson’s Dockyard National Park

Spend the day exploring Nelson’s Dockyard National Park, which was once the base for the British Royal Navy’s Caribbean fleet in the 18th century. The park features restored historic buildings, a museum, and numerous hiking trails that take you past beautiful bays and mangrove forests. The Dockyard Museum gives an in-depth look at the region’s history, and the ruins of the forts and armories are perfect for history buffs. Also, don’t miss Shirley Heights, which offers sweeping views over Antigua, especially during sunset.

Day 4: Hit the Beach and try Water Activities

Take advantage of a beautiful day at Dickenson Bay, one of Antigua’s most popular beaches, and try a water sport such as kiteboarding, snorkeling, or scuba diving. Beachside vendors offer parasailing excursions or rent kayaks and paddleboards. For lunch, head to one of the many beach bars or enjoy a fresh seafood meal at one of the nearby restaurants. In the evening, head to the famous Beachlimerz bar and grill for some live music and dancing.

Day 5: Get a Taste of Local Life in English Harbour

Today visit English Harbour, made famous by Lord Nelson, which is the bustling center of Antigua’s yachting scene. Wander through the village’s narrow streets and take in the colorful, historic buildings before visiting the famous Shirley’s Heights lookout, which provides an amazing panoramic view over the harbor. Enjoy a delicious lunch that highlights local cuisine, such as Fungi and Dukuna. During dinner time, go back to Nelson’s Dockyard for a memorable dining experience at the Admiral’s Inn.

Day 6: Take a Day Trip to Barbuda

Take a day trip to Barbuda and enjoy a peaceful atmosphere and miles of unspoiled beaches. After a 90-minute ferry ride, visit the famous Frigate Bird Sanctuary, home to over 2,500 birds, and experience one of the world’s largest colonies of these unique birds. Spend the rest of the day lounging on empty beaches, looking for turtles, or taking advantage of the island’s excellent fishing spots.

Day 7: Departure Day

Spend the day wrapping up your Antiguan adventure by grabbing breakfast at a local café and maybe doing some last-minute shopping for souvenirs. Depending on your flight time, you may have time to visit some of the island’s lesser-known attractions, such as the Devil’s Bridge, a natural limestone bridge that is carved out by the waves or Betty’s Hope, an old sugar plantation that tells the story of Antigua’s history.
