Trip to Cairns, Australia
Day 1: Arrival and Relaxation
Once you arrive in Cairns, settle into your accommodation and take a little time to relax and unwind. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can head to the Cairns Esplanade Lagoon – a free saltwater swimming pool where you can soak in the sun and swim to your heart’s content. Alternatively, you can treat yourself to a spa treatment and indulge in some self-care. Finish off the day with an evening stroll along the Esplanade and enjoy some dinner at one of the many restaurants.
Day 2: Kuranda Village and Skyrail
Start the day by taking the scenic Skyrail Rainforest Cableway to the picturesque Kuranda Village. A charming little gem up in the mountains surrounded by rainforest, waterfalls, and wildlife, Kuranda offers a range of art galleries, souvenir shops, and restaurants. You can visit the Butterfly Sanctuary, Australian Venom Zoo, and the Kuranda Koala Gardens where you can see and cuddle with Australia’s iconic koalas. Spend the evening back in Cairns where there are a lot of nightlife options for you to enjoy.
Day 3: Great Barrier Reef
Today you will be embarking on a full day adventure to the Great Barrier Reef, one of the world’s natural wonders. You can explore the reef by snorkeling or scuba diving and see the rich coral gardens and underwater wildlife. Tour operators also offer glass-bottom boat trips, island hopping, and helicopter tours which will give you a unique perspective on this natural marvel.
Day 4: Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation
Take a full-day tour to the Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation where you can discover the oldest rainforest in the world and experience the unique flora and fauna. Enjoy scenic drives through the unspoiled forest and visit the Alexandra Lookout for stunning views back towards Cairns. You can also visit the Daintree Discovery Centre which has a 23-meter high canopy tower where you can get a bird’s eye view of the rainforest. End the day at Cape Tribulation, where the rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef, before heading back to Cairns.
Day 5: Beaches and Waterfalls
Today is a more relaxed day where you can take your pick of the many beautiful beaches in Cairns. Some of the nearby beaches are Palm Cove, Trinity beach and Yorkeys Knob. Alternatively, escape the heat and head to the Crystal Cascades or Josephine Falls, both of which are stunning and refreshing natural waterfalls.
Day 6: Atherton Tablelands
Take a drive up to the Atherton Tablelands for a day of exploring waterfalls, wildlife, and small towns. You can visit the popular Millaa Millaa Falls, Curtin Fig Tree, and the historic village of Yungaburra. Explore the waterfall circuit that includes Zillie, Ellinjaa, and Mungalli cascades, make your way through the Ravenshoe Steam Railway or spot some platypus while walking along the Peterson Creek.
Day 7: City Exploration
Spend your final day in Cairns exploring more of the local scene. Start the day off by learning about Aboriginal culture at the Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park. Then visit the innumerable museums in the Esplanade area, including the Cairns Art Gallery, which has both contemporary and traditional works on display. If shopping is your interest, then spend some time at the Pier Mall, where you can grab lunch, watch street performers, and buy souvenirs. Afterward, take a stroll through the markets along the boardwalk before heading back to your hotel to collect your luggage and start your journey home.
