Trip to Homyel, Belarus
Day 1: Arrival
Welcome to Homyel. Upon arrival, it is recommended to take the day to settle into your hotel and explore the city a bit on foot. The city has a lot to offer, including plenty of parks and walking trails. Take a stroll through Lenin Square, which has a beautiful fountain and plenty of benches to relax. If you’re feeling adventurous, take a boat out on the river or try a local Belarusian dish at a nearby restaurant.
Day 2: Homyel Fortress and Local Cuisine
Start your day by exploring the Homyel Fortress, which dates back to the early 19th century and offers beautiful views of the city. Afterward, make your way to Restaurant Narachanka, which serves authentic Belarusian cuisine. Try the draniki, a potato pancake that is a local favorite. Alternatively, you can visit a nearby market such as Komarovsky Market to shop for local produce and other locally-made goods.
Day 3: National Park “Pripyatsky”
Spend the day in National Park “Pripyatsky” which is located about an hour’s drive from Homyel. The park offers beautiful scenery and is known for its wildlife, in particular, elk and bison. Take a hike through the park or try your hand at fishing in the nearby river. Finish your day with a picnic and a bottle of local wine, which the area is also known for producing.
Day 4: Museum of Military Equipment and Nightlife
Visit the local Museum of Military Equipment, which has a vast collection of tanks, planes, and other war-related vehicles. The museum provides an excellent insight into the country’s military history. For some nightlife, head out to the city center which is lined with bars, nightclubs and restaurants. Visit Kashtan Club, a popular nightclub that stands out for its unique atmosphere and delicious cocktails.
Day 5: Gomel Palace and Botanical Gardens
Explore the Gomel Palace and Botanical Gardens, one of the most beautiful gardens in the country which is home to over 10,000 different plant species. The palace provides beautiful architecture which adds a touch of elegance to its surrounding gardens. In the afternoon, take a guided walking tour of the city which will give you a deeper insight into the city’s culture and history.
Day 6: Local Art and Crafts
Visit the local arts and crafts center where you can learn about and buy authentic Belarusian pottery and paintings. Alternatively, you can visit a nearby museum such as the Local History Museum, which showcases artifacts and exhibitions detailing the city and its surroundings. Finish off your day with a relaxing spa treatment at the Raton Health Center.
Day 7: Departure
Spend your last day taking in the city’s sights and sounds before departing for the airport. You can purchase souvenirs to take back with you before saying your goodbyes to this wonderful city. We hope you had an enjoyable trip.
