Trip to Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Day 1: Arrival to Sarajevo

Welcome to Sarajevo! Today, we’re checking into the hotel and getting settled in. After a long flight, take it easy and explore the surrounding area. If time permits, head to Baščaršija, the city’s vibrant old bazaar and market district, which is within walking distance from your hotel. Here you will find a variety of cafes and restaurants to enjoy some traditional Bosnian cuisine. For dinner, we suggest trying cevapi, a grilled dish typically made from minced meat served with ajvar and somun (bread).

Day 2: Walking Tour of Sarajevo

After breakfast, get ready for a walking tour of Sarajevo with a local guide. Start the tour with the history of Sarajevo, including the Ottoman period, the Austro-Hungarian period, and a visit to the Latin Bridge where Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated in 1914. Then, see the city’s famous sights such as the Gazi Husrev-Beg Mosque, the Emperor’s Mosque, the City Hall, and the Olympic Stadium. Lastly, sample some Bosnian coffee and sweets at a traditional Bosnian cafe.

Day 3: Trip to Mostar

Today, we’re taking a day trip to the charming town of Mostar, located about two hours’ drive from Sarajevo. This lovely town is known for its Old Bridge, which was destroyed during the war and then rebuilt. Mostar also has a rich history and a beautiful mix of Ottoman and European architecture. Visit the Old Bazaar and the Mosque of Mostar, where you can climb the minaret and get a stunning view of the town. Finally, enjoy a traditional lunch at a local restaurant before heading back to Sarajevo.

Day 4: Tunnel of Hope and War Crimes Tour

Today, we’re visiting the Tunnel of Hope museum, which was built by the Bosnian Army during the Siege of Sarajevo as a vital lifeline to transport food, weapons and medical supplies into the city. After the visit, we’ll go on the War Crimes Tour which shows the events that led up to the Yugoslav War and provides insight into the aftermath of the Bosnian War.

Day 5: Trip to Bjelašnica Mountain

Today, we’re going on a day trip to Bjelašnica Mountain, which is located just 30 minutes drive away from Sarajevo. The mountain offers stunning views of the surrounding area and has plenty of hiking trails and other recreational activities. Once we’ve reached the peak, we will rest at the small restaurant on top of the mountain and have a cup of tea while enjoying the magnificent view.

Day 6: Visit to Vrelo Bosne and Bosna River Springs

After breakfast, we’re heading to Vrelo Bosne and Bosna River Springs, a natural park located just outside of Sarajevo. Walk the beautiful paths of the park along the emerald green river Bosna, and explore the park’s springs, waterfalls, and forests. For lunch, we suggest visiting the Restaurant Vrelo Bosne near the entrance of the park.

Day 7: Shopping and Nightlife at Baščaršija

On our final day, we will head back to Baščaršija for some souvenir shopping and enjoy the lively nightlife. Whether you’re interested in modern bar-hopping, or would rather explore some of the authentic kafanas (Bosnian taverns), you’re sure to find something to your liking. Be sure to try Sarajevsko beer, which has been brewed here since 1864.
