Day 1: Arrival and city tour

Upon arrival in Recife, consider hiring a private driver to take you around the city to see the best landmarks and attractions. A tour will allow you to get an insight into Brazil’s culture and to explore the country’s unique history. Start at the old town of Recife, known as Recife Antigo, where you will find narrow streets, old churches, and vibrant colors. Visit the Museum of the Northeastern Man, a must-see cultural landmark in Recife, to learn about the history, customs, and traditions of the Brazilian people. In the evening, head to Rua do Bom Jesus to experience the nightlife of Recife with its trendy bars and excellent restaurants.

Day 2: Day trip to Olinda

Today, take a day trip to Olinda, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located just 6 km north of Recife, Olinda is set on a hill with stunning views of the surrounding landscapes. You can explore the winding streets and colonial buildings by foot or by taking a guided tour. Head to Alto da Sé to get a panoramic view of the city and to see the 16th century Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Don’t forget to check out the handicrafts, souvenirs, and traditional food at the city’s fair market.

Day 3: Beach Escape

After a couple of days exploring the cities, today, it’s time to hit the beach. Head to the famous Praia de Boa Viagem, which is ranked as one of the best urban beaches in the world. The beach is perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and relaxing, offering a broad range of activities such as water sports, boat rides, and local markets. Don’t miss a chance to try fresh coconut water and grilled seafood off the beach.

Day 4: Boat Tour & Island Hopping

Today, go on a boat tour along the northeastern coast of Brazil, which comprises 187 km of coast and includes coral reefs, mangroves, and coconut groves. Visit the idyllic Itamaracá Island, which is famous for its beaches, flora, and fauna. On the island, explore the Engenho São Felix, a traditional sugar cane factory, which is now a national heritage site. Take a dip in the crystal-clear waters or go for a walk in the nature reserve of Coroa do Avião, a small sand dune island in the middle of a lagoon.

Day 5: Cultural Experience

Today, head to the Centro Cultural Ricardo Brennand, one of the most impressive cultural landmarks in Brazil. The museum is vast and set in an extravagant castle-like structure with a stunningly manicured garden. You can find art, weapons, and armor from ancient civilizations, as well as a collection of European and Oriental arts. Later in the afternoon, head to the Paço do Frevo, an immersive museum that showcases the history of Brazilian carnival, featuring parades, costumes, and music.

Day 6: Street market shopping

For a shopping experience like no other, visit the Mercado São José, an open-air market that sells everything from fruits and vegetables to clothes and souvenirs. Be sure to haggle for a good price and try some of the famous delicacies of the region, such as tapioca and coconut candy. Make a stop at the Casa da Cultura, a former prison turned into a cultural center that offers a vast array of handcrafted items, musical instruments, and stage performances.

Day 7: Departure

Today marks the end of your stay in Recife. If time permits, visit the Parque das Esculturas Francisco Brennand, a sculpture park overlooking the sea that boasts over one hundred works of art. Before heading to the airport, savor one to the city’s most delicious meals, the Caldinho. This hearty soup is made from black beans, shrimp, and the traditional fish Carchariasfornellitor, found only in these parts of Brazil.
