Day 1: Arrival and Copacabana Beach
Welcome to Rio de Janeiro! Once you arrive and settle in, head straight to Copacabana Beach to enjoy the sun and sand. This 4km beach is located south of the city and is one of the most famous beaches in the world. Enjoy a swim, try some beach sports or relax on a lounger and soak up the sun. In the evening, explore the vibrant nightlife of Copacabana, with its many bars and clubs.
Day 2: Sugarloaf Mountain and Christ the Redeemer Statue
Today, head to Sugarloaf Mountain, one of Rio’s most famous landmarks. Take a cable car up to the summit and enjoy the beautiful views of the city, Guanabara Bay, and the surrounding mountains. After that, visit the iconic Christ the Redeemer Statue, which stands atop Corcovado Mountain. Take a scenic train ride up the mountain, and enjoy the panoramic views of the city and the Atlantic Ocean from the statue’s perch.
Day 3: Tijuca Forest National Park and Samba Experience
Spend the day getting close to nature with a visit to Tijuca Forest National Park. The largest urban jungle in the world, this tropical forest offers a respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. Hike to the highest peak in Rio, Pico da Tijuca, or discover the many waterfalls and swimming spots in the park. In the evening, immerse yourself in the vibrant samba scene with an evening at a local samba school, where you can learn to dance and enjoy the music.
Day 4: Lapa Arches and Selaron Steps
Start the day with a walking tour of Lapa Arches, an iconic Rio de Janeiro landmark. These beautiful arches are located in the Lapa neighborhood and hold historical and cultural significance. After that, visit the neighboring Selaron Steps, a breathtakingly beautiful staircase adorned with colorful tiles from around the world. In the evening, visit one of the many restaurants in the Santa Teresa neighborhood to sample delicious Brazilian cuisine.
Day 5: Museum of Tomorrow and Botanical Gardens
Today, visit the Museum of Tomorrow, which focuses on the science and technology of sustainability. Located in the city’s Porto Maravilha neighborhood, this impressive building features interactive exhibits that explore the ecological challenges facing the planet. After that, visit the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Gardens, home to over 6,000 species of plants and trees. Stroll through the gardens and admire the beautiful orchids, bromeliads and other flora.
Day 6: Hang Gliding and Favela Tour
For an adrenaline-packed day, try hang gliding over Rio de Janeiro. This thrilling activity will give you stunning views of the city as you soar over the coast and the mountains. After that, visit one of the city’s famous favelas, or shantytowns, on a guided tour. Learn about the history and culture of these unique communities, and how they have influenced the city’s social and cultural landscape.
Day 7: Shopping and Departure
On your last day in Rio de Janeiro, spend the morning doing some last minute shopping. Head to the popular Hippie Market in Ipanema to find souvenirs like handmade jewelry, paintings and fabrics. Or visit the Rio Sul shopping center, where you’ll find a wide range of international and local brands. After that, say goodbye to Rio de Janeiro and head to the airport for your flight home.
