Trip to Kampong Cham, Cambodia

Day 1: Arrival and Exploration

Upon arrival at the airport, we will transfer you to your hotel in Kampong Cham. After checking in, take a walk around the riverside and explore the town on foot. The atmosphere in Kampong Cham is welcoming, and the locals are incredibly friendly, always happy to engage in a conversation. The serene countryside and the peaceful Mekong River that flows through town will provide you with an excellent break from the city’s hustle and bustle. Be sure to try out some tasty street food from one of the many stalls selling it on the streets.

Day 2: Kampong Cham Sightseeing Tour

After a delightful breakfast at the hotel, we will begin exploring the beautiful city of Kampong Cham. We start by visiting a unique French colonial-style temple, Wat Maha Leap, known for its unusual murals painted by a local Khmer artist. Then we head to Phnom Srei, a hilltop temple located about 30 km outside of Kampong Cham town. The views from the top of the temple are breathtaking, and the journey offers an excellent opportunity to absorb the stunning Cambodian countryside. In the evening, we will enjoy a fantastic dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 3: Koh Paen Island

After breakfast, we’ll travel to Koh Paen Island, located in the Mekong River just off the coast of Kampong Cham. The island is famous for its traditional silk weaving, and we will have the chance to watch the skilled weavers at work at a local workshop. We’ll then cycle through the village to explore more of the local lifestyle and traditions. The locals are incredibly welcoming, and you may share a friendly conversation or welcome cup of tea with some of the island’s inhabitants. Don’t forget to take a dip in the cool waters of the Mekong before returning to your hotel.

Day 4: Cheung Kok Community Tour

After breakfast, we take a trip to Cheung Kok, a nearby village that is home to one of the most successful community-based tourism projects in Cambodia. The community tour provides insights into the local villagers’ lives and the area’s history. We will learn traditional fishing and cooking techniques and also visit a workshop, where the women of the village make handwoven baskets and traditional handicrafts. We will have time to wander around the village, chat with locals, and sample local produce before heading back to our hotel.

Day 5: Relax at Wat Hanchey Mountain

Today is a rest day, and we’ll take it slow with a trip to Wat Hanchey Mountain. After breakfast, we will transfer you to the Ferry which will take us across the Mighty Mekong to the base of the mountain. We will climb the stairs taking in the stunning temple, watching the local villages bussling along the river, and enjoying the tranquil surroundings. Return in the afternoon for a relaxing massage at one of Kampong Cham’s spas.

Day 6 & 7: Final Shopping and Departure

Today is your last chance for shopping in Kampong Cham. We will visit the morning market, known as “Psar Tmey,” which is a hub of local food and craft vendors. After some final souvenir shopping or checking out of the hotel, we’ll then travel back to Phnom Penh or Siem Reap airports for your departure.
