Day 1: Arrival in Nanjing
Upon arrival in Nanjing, allow time to get settled into your accommodation and rest up from your travel. If you’re not too tired, take a walk around the downtown area to get a feel for the city and stop by Confucius Temple, located in one of the most bustling areas in the city. Confucius Temple, erected in 1034, boasts a history of over a thousand years, and is known for its distinctive architectural features and cultural relics. At night, enjoy a stroll along the Qinhuai River, and marvel at Nanjing’s skyline.
Day 2: Nanjing Museum and Purple Mountain
On day 2, start with a visit to the Nanjing Museum, which showcases a collection of over 400,000 cultural relics. The museum’s exhibits span from ancient history to modern times, where you’ll find jade, bronze, pottery, painting, calligraphy, silk, and other cultural treasures from around the country. In the afternoon, head to Purple Mountain, one of Nanjing’s most famous attractions. The mountain is known for its beauty and historical significance, including the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum and other attractions. Take a hike up the mountain for a scenic view of the city below.
Day 3: Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum and Fuzimiao
Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum is the resting place of the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang, and is known for being one of the largest imperial mausoleums in China. Afterward, head over to Fuzimiao, also known as the “Temple of Confucius”, an ancient temple originally built in 1034. Fuzimiao is a well-preserved spot that allows visitors to learn about the rich cultural history of Nanjing.
Day 4: Xuanwu Lake and Nanjing Brocade Museum
On day 4, begin by visiting Xuanwu Lake, a scenic spot in Nanjing. The lake and its surrounding park offer a peaceful oasis for visitors to relax and enjoy on a beautiful day. Next, head over to Nanjing Brocade Museum, where you can witness the traditional brocade making process. Brocade is a type of silk cloth with a raised pattern, produced by weaving with a supplementary weft thread which gives it a unique texture that sets it apart from other fabrics.
Day 5: Zhonghua Gate and Jiming Temple
Zhonghua Gate is an ancient gate that has stood the test of time. It has stood tall for over 600 years, making it an important part of Nanjing’s rich historical landscape. Inside the gate is a museum that showcases the area’s military history. Afterward, head to Jiming Temple, which is famous for its Chinese architecture and serene atmosphere. The temple is especially beautiful in the autumn, when the leaves turn vibrant shades of yellow and orange.
Day 6: Hongshan Forest Zoo and Qixia Mountain National Forest Park
On this day, take a trip to Hongshan Forest Zoo, home to over 200 species of animal. Hongshan Forest Zoo is an excellent place to visit if you have children, but also fascinating for adults. Later in the day, head to Qixia Mountain National Forest Park, known for its beautiful natural scenery. The park is a popular place for hiking and allows you to experience the natural beauty of China.
Day 7: Departure from Nanjing
On your final day in Nanjing, depart for your next destination or back home. If time permits, explore the city and check out any places you may have missed during your stay.
