Trip to Cartagena, Colombia
Day 1: Arrival and City Tour
Arrive at Rafael Núñez International Airport and travel to your hotel. After checking in and freshening up, take a guided city tour to explore the historic center of Cartagena. The city boasts a rich history spanning over 500 years and the colorful buildings, narrow streets, and colonial architecture will give you a glimpse of the past. Some of the must-see attractions are the San Felipe Castle, which offers stunning views of the sea and the city, and La Popa Monastery, which is one of the highest points in Cartagena and provides beautiful panoramic views. After this, stroll around the vibrant Getsemaní neighborhood to soak up some of the local culture.
Day 2: Island Hopping
Today, head out to the Rosario Islands, a chain of islands located just off the coast of Cartagena. Take a boat excursion to see the crystal-clear waters, white sandy beaches, and abundant marine life. You can try snorkeling, scuba diving, paddleboarding, or simply lazing on the sand. You will also get the opportunity to visit the Oceanario, a marine park where you can interact with the aquatic animals and learn more about them. End the day with a glorious sunset over the ocean.
Day 3: Street Art Appreciation
Today, take a guided tour to explore the street art scene in Cartagena. Colombia is known for its stunning street art and Cartagena is home to some of the best works in the country. Explore the distinctive works of local artists and learn about their inspiration and techniques. Some of the places you will visit include the urban art festival of “Dia Internacional de Arte Urbano” in the once-neglected neighborhood of Getsemani. Later in the day, head to Plaza de la Trinidad to enjoy the local nightlife and feast on delicious street food.
Day 4: Beach Day
Cartagena is known for its beautiful beaches, and today, spend a day soaking up the sun and sea at Playa Blanca, one of the most beautiful beaches in Colombia. Take a guided tour to reach Playa Blanca and enjoy swimming, sunbathing, and relaxing in the pristine turquoise waters. Enjoy grilled fish and other local delicacies from one of the food vendors dotting the beach. Spend the day relaxing and unwinding on the beach.
Day 5: Coffee Tour
Today, head out to the outskirts of the city to explore the coffee region of the Sierra Nevada. Take a guided tour and learn about the history, production, and culture of coffee in Colombia. Visit a coffee plantation and learn how coffee is grown, harvested, and processed. Sample the freshly brewed coffee and learn the different ways to taste it. Day 6: Shopping
No trip to Cartagena is complete without some shopping. Head to Centro Historico or Portal de los Dulces to buy some souvenirs and local handicrafts. Stroll through the vibrant markets and haggle with the vendors for the best deals. You can also find colorful traditional dresses and jewelry, indigenous crafts, and Colombian chocolate. For a more upscale shopping experience, head to the fashion mall Plaza Bocagrande and the boutiques in the trendy El Laguito neighborhood.
Day 7: Departure
