Trip to Heredia, Costa Rica
Day 1: Arrival in Heredia
Welcome to Costa Rica! Your first day in Heredia is all about getting settled and relaxing. After arriving at the airport, you’ll be met by a driver who will take you to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you may want to explore the local area around your hotel, or simply relax and get some rest.
Day 2: Sightseeing in Heredia
Start your day by taking a guided walking tour of Heredia’s historic center. Your tour guide will take you through the city’s streets and introduce you to the colonial architecture that is characteristic of this area. After your walking tour, you can visit La Fortuna Waterfall, which is about an hour away from Heredia by car. The waterfall is a popular tourist attraction that offers a refreshing dip in the cool water. You can also enjoy some of the delicious local food and drinks at the small restaurants near the waterfall.
Day 3: Volcanic Nature Hike
Today, join a guided hike to the Poás volcano. This area is famous for its enormous crater that is over 1,000 feet wide and 300 feet deep. You’ll have an opportunity to explore the area around the volcano, known for its natural beauty, as well as endemic flora and fauna, including cloud forests, and endangered bird species. After your hike, you can visit the nearby La Paz Waterfall Gardens where you can encounter a variety of animals such as sloths, monkeys, and toucans.
Day 4: Visit the Alajuela Central Market
Today, take a trip to the nearby town of Alajuela, home to the bustling Central Market. This market is known for its fresh produce, unique local crafts, and souvenirs. You can spend hours exploring the market’s many stalls, taking in the sights and sounds of the real Costa Rica. You’ll also have an opportunity to try some of the delicious street food that’s available in the market.
Day 5: Coffee Plantations and Tropical Gardens
Today, take a tour of a local coffee plantation where you’ll learn about the country’s most famous agricultural export and sample some of the finest coffee roasts in the world. After your tour, visit the nearby INBio Park, where you can discover a variety of gardens, exhibits, and hiking trails. Highlights include the butterfly garden, orchid garden, and frog exhibit.
Day 6: Beach Day at Jaco
Today, take a day trip to the Pacific Coast and spend the day at Jaco Beach. Enjoy swimming in the warm ocean water, sunbathing on the beach, and exploring the local restaurants and shops. You’ll have an opportunity to try some of the freshest seafood, barbequed pizzas, and other local dishes.
Day 7: Departure Day
Today is your last day in Heredia, and it’s time to say goodbye. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your hotel and take some last-minute souvenir shopping. You’ll be picked up by your driver and taken to the airport for your flight home.
