Trip to Monteverde, Costa Rica
Day 1: Arrival at San José
Welcome to San José, Costa Rica! On Day 1, you’ll arrive in the capital city with plenty of time to explore. After checking in to your hotel, you can head out and explore the city. San José is home to many historic landmarks, museums, and parks, such as the Museo Nacional, which showcases pre-Columbian gold artifacts. You can also enjoy some traditional Costa Rican cuisine in one of the city’s many restaurants, or take part in the city’s vibrant nightlife scene.
Day 2: Transfer to Monteverde
On Day 2, you’ll transfer to Monteverde, Costa Rica’s famous cloud forest region. After a scenic 3-hour drive, you’ll arrive in the charming town of Santa Elena, which is located in the heart of the Monteverde reserve. In the afternoon, you can explore the town’s many shops and restaurants, or take a guided coffee or chocolate tour to learn more about the region’s rich agriculture industry.
Day 3: Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve
Today, you’ll explore the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, one of the most important protected areas in Central America. This unique forest is home to a wide variety of plant and animal species, including over 400 species of birds, monkeys, and other mammals. Guided tours through the reserve offer visitors the opportunity to learn about the forest’s ecology, and to spot some of its most iconic wildlife.
Day 4: Ziplining and Hanging Bridges
On Day 4, you’ll experience the thrill of ziplining and walking on hanging bridges in the Monteverde Cloud Forest. The ziplining experience offers stunning views of the forest below as you soar over the treetops on a series of cables. The hanging bridges walk provides a unique and immersive experience of the forest, as you walk along a series of suspended bridges and platforms, offering stunning views of the canopy.
Day 5: Hummingbird and Butterfly Gardens
Today, you’ll visit two of Costa Rica’s most enchanting and delightful attractions: the hummingbird and butterfly gardens. Located just a few minutes from Santa Elena, both gardens offer visitors the chance to see up-close some of the region’s most beautiful and diverse wildlife. You’ll be amazed by the colorful and lively displays that these gardens offer.
Day 6: Horseback Riding Tour
On Day 6, you’ll enjoy a relaxing and scenic horseback riding tour through the beautiful Monteverde countryside. The tour starts at Santa Elena and allows visitors to enjoy the scenic views of the surrounding forests and hillsides. The ride is suitable for both novice and experienced riders.
Day 7: Departure
Your tour of Monteverde, Costa Rica comes to an end today and you’ll be transferred back to San José for your flight home. Take some time to reflect on all the wonderful experiences you had during your 7-day journey through this enchanting region of Costa Rica.
