Trip to Tallinn, Estonia

Day 1: Arrive in Tallinn

Welcome to Tallinn! After your arrival, you can make your way to your accommodation to settle in. Take a stroll around the cobblestone streets of the Old Town and get acquainted with the city’s rich history. During your casual walk through the surroundings of Pikk street, there are several restaurants to choose from that serve traditional Estonian cuisine, such as Elk soup, black bread, pickled herring, and a variety of meat dishes. Make a stop at the Kohtuotsa viewing platform which gives you a panoramic view of Tallinn and provides a perfect opportunity to take photos.

Day 2: Old Town Walking Tour

Today, indulge in a Walking Tour of the Old Town to get an insight into the rich history of Tallinn. You’ll be led through the winding streets of Tallinn’s Old Town, with visits to St. Olaf’s Church, one of Tallinn’s oldest churches and the tallest building in the world in the 16th century. Then, moving on to Alexander Nevsky Cathedral whose Byzantine architecture and decorative mosaics evoke memories of times gone by, and finally, onto Town Hall Square. Make your way up to the fortress walls to enjoy a stunning view of the sea in the evening.

Day 3: Kadriorg Park and Art Museum

On the third day, visit Kadriorg Park, the largest park in Tallinn. This park is adorned with carefully tended gardens, forests, and ponds, but the show-stopper is the Kadriorg Palace, an ornate Baroque palace which was gifted to Peter the Great by a wealthy Estonian merchant as a summer residence for the tsar. The Kadriorg Art Museum provides an excellent insight into Estonian artists, their lives, and their work. Take a stroll through the park and enjoy a picnic or a cup of coffee.

Day 4: Day Trip to Lahemaa National Park

Take a day trip to Lahemaa National Park, which is 40 km east from Tallinn. This park is a beautiful symphony of forests and coastal beauty, which gives a look at traditional Estonian rural life and provides several excellent hiking trails. The park also features two beautiful Manor houses: Palmse Manor & Vihula Manor, which date back to the 18th & 19th centuries respectively. At Palmse Manor, you’ll learn what life would have been like on an estate in the 18th century, and Vihula Manor, where you’ll see what life was like on a mansion in the 19th Century.

Day 5: Open Air Museum & Seaplane Harbor

Today, visit an open-air museum that will take you on an exciting journey back in time which will show you Estonia’s traditional rural lifestyle. The Museum is home to several heritage farms, mills, more modern farmhouses, fishing net sheds, and a village store. Afterward, enjoy the view of the beautiful Baltic Sea mudguards where a tall ship has been transformed into an exhibition space for the Seaplane Harbor; it is the most exciting historical technical museum in Tallinn, where displays describe the history of Estonian aviation and its naval and military forces.

Day 6: Shopping & Nightlife in Kalamaja

Kalamaja is a bohemian district of Tallinn, where several designer shops and boutiques are scattered around the quiet streets. Some lovely cafes and restaurants offer great cuisine. This neighborhood is also known for its nightlife and entertainment hotspots; during the summer, there are several outdoor festivals in the Bohemian district where everyone is welcome to enjoy the music and meet acquaintances.

Day 7: Departure

It’s time to say goodbye to Tallinn today. Depending on your time of departure, take a stroll around the city or visit a place you missed. Make your way back to the airport and have a safe trip home.
