Day 1: Arrive in Tartu

Welcome to Tartu! After arriving at Tartu airport, check into your hotel and freshen up. You can start exploring the city by taking a leisurely stroll around Town Hall Square and Old Town. Tartu Old Town is characterized by narrow cobblestone streets, colorful houses, picturesque squares, and a medieval cathedral which is one of the most iconic landmarks in the city. Day 2: Tartu University and Botanical Garden

Today, visit the University of Tartu which was founded in 1632 and is one of the oldest universities in Northern Europe. Its main building is a spectacular example of classical architecture and well worth a visit even if you are not a student of the university. Moving forward, visit the Botanical Garden which was founded in 1803. Its collection includes a wide range of plant species from Estonia and around the world, and there’s an indoor Tropical greenhouse that is an exotic and educational experience. It is also an ideal destination for a peaceful walk, picnic or short-cycle escape in nature, away from the bustling city.

Day 3: Ahhaa Science Center and Emajõgi Riverfront

Start with the popular science center, Ahhaa which provides a unique hands-on experience, especially for children. The center comprises of three floors which have over 130 interactive exhibits that are designed to answer questions about the world we live in. Next, head to the Emajõgi Riverfront, which is a perfect place to soak up the city’s natural beauty. You can explore the many restaurants, cafes, and bars along the riverbank. The river is great for boating, walking, and cycling.

Day 4: Tartu Art Museum and Tartu Market Hall

Begin today with a visit to the Tartu Art Museum, which is one of the oldest art museums in Estonia. The museum has an extensive collection of Estonian art from 18th century up to the present day. Don’t miss “Gold and Shadow”, a permanent exhibition, featuring highlights of Estonian art hosted on the second floor of the museum. Next, visit the Tartu Market Hall which is a historic landmark, located right in the center of Tartu. The hall is a hub for locals to shop for fresh produce and a variety of regional products. You will enjoy the hustle and bustle, with vendors selling honey, pickles, meats, fish, cheese, chocolate, bread, and fruits.

Day 5: Pühajärv Lake and Otepää Adventure Park

Today, take a day trip to Otepää which is 42 km from Tartu. Otepää is a small town that is known for its beautiful Pühajärv lake, which is surrounded by vast hills. The area is a popular winter sports destination, as well as a perfect summer getaway. End your day at the Otepää Adventure Park which is a combination of fun and adventure, where you can climb high into the trees and conquer a variety of obstacles or enjoy a zip line that runs a total length of 350 meters through the beautiful pine forest.

Day 6: Tartu Cathedral and Estonian National Museum

Begin the day with the Tartu Cathedral which is the oldest and largest preserved religious structure of the medieval period in Estonia. The Cathedral has a rich history, starting from its consecration in 1294 and the present-day structure reflects many times and architectural styles. The next stop of your day will be the Estonian National Museum which explores Estonian culture and history. The museum houses a vast collection of exhibitions and explores everything from folklore to modern-day Estonia.
