Day 1: Arrival and Exploring
Upon arrival in Lyon, check in to your hotel and take some time to relax and freshen up. In the afternoon, head out to explore the city on foot. Lyon is known for its beautiful architecture, charming streets and local markets. Start by visiting the Basilique Notre Dame de Fourvière, a grand cathedral perched on a hill with stunning views of the city. After taking in the sights, head down the hill to Old Lyon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you can wander the cobblestone streets and soak up its rich history. Don’t forget to stop at one of the many bouchons (local Lyon restaurants) to indulge in Lyon’s world-famous cuisine.
Day 2: Lyon Museums and Galleries
Lyon is home to some of the best museums and galleries in France. On day two, immerse yourself in Lyon’s art and culture scene by visiting some of the city’s top museums and exhibitions. Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon is a must-visit, housing an impressive collection of paintings, sculptures and artifacts. Another great museum to check out is the Musée des Confluences, a stunning museum of science and anthropology located at the confluence of two rivers. Complete your day with a visit to the Lyon Biennale, one of the most respected contemporary art shows in Europe.
Day 3: Day trip to Beaujolais Wine Region
Spend a day in France’s renowned Beaujolais wine region, located just a short drive from Lyon. Take a wine tour of the local vineyards and indulge in some of the area’s finest wines. You can also explore the charming towns and villages of the region, such as Fleurie and Morgon, which boast incredible views of the countryside.
Day 4: Explore Croix-Rousse district and enjoy local markets
Start your day early by exploring the slopes of the Croix-Rousse district, which has been known to be the home for silk weavers. Stroll through the vibrant markets and antique shops, where you can find unique treasures and souvenirs, before enjoying the beautiful views of the city from the Place des Terreaux.
Day 5: Les Halles de Lyon – Paul Bocuse market
On day five, make your way to one of the most renowned food markets in the city, Les Halles de Lyon. Here, you can explore the culinary delights of Lyon’s food scene, with a vast array of meats, seafood, cheeses, breads and sweets on offer. You can also take a cooking class to learn how to make some of Lyon’s signature dishes.
Day 6: Lyon’s Parks and Gardens
Spend a day outdoors in Lyon’s lush green parks and gardens. Start at the Parc de la Tête d’Or, the largest urban park in France, where you can rent a boat on the lake, visit the zoo or simply relax under the trees. Next, visit the Jardin des Curiosités, with its eclectic mix of plants and flowers, before ending the day at the serene Jardin Rosa Mir park for some peace and quiet time.
