Day 1: Exploring downtown Hamburg
Today will be your first day in Hamburg, and what better way to start exploring the city than by taking a stroll through the downtown area. Consider visiting the popular shopping street, Mönckebergstraße, where you can find high-end international brands, local boutiques, and cafes. Another great option is Jungfernstieg, a beautiful promenade on the edge of the Alster lake, where you can take a walk, rent a bicycle, or take a boat tour. There are also plenty of restaurants and bars in the area to grab a bite to eat or a drink after a long day of exploring.
Day 2: Visit to the Fish Market
On this day, head over to Hamburg’s famous fish market, which is one of the largest in Europe. It’s open every Sunday from 5 am to 9:30 am, even if you’re not a morning person, it’s worth getting up early. You will find vendors selling all types of fish, fruits, vegetables, and even flowers. You can pick up fresh seafood as well as local treats such as Fischbrötchen (fish sandwiches), which are a popular breakfast option around the market. There are also various stalls selling souvenirs, clothing and toys!
Day 3: Discover historical sites
An ideal way to spend today is by immersing yourself with the history of Hamburg. Take in the beautiful historic neighborhood of Speicherstadt, which is one of the most picturesque parts of Hamburg boasting gorgeous red-brick buildings. You can visit the International Maritime Museum, which has an extensive collection of ship models, navigational instruments and much more. St. Michalis Church is perfect for beautiful panoramic views of Hamburg from above. You can then head over to the beautiful Art Nouveau quarter of St. Georg, it offers unique architecture, beautiful coffee shops, and some of the city’s compact clubs.
Day 4: Exploration of Elbphilharmonie
Spend the day at the beautiful Elbphilharmonie, the biggest concert hall across the globe. It’s designed by the Swiss firm Herzog & de Meuron with the intention of resembling a hoisted sail boat projecting out from the River Elbe. Whether you go to attend concerts or enjoy a beautiful view of the city from Plaza deck’s spectacular view. You can also stop by the rooftop terrace and enjoy a beautiful musical performance or a meal at the Störtebeker Restaurant
Day 5: Visit to Miniature Wunderland Hamburg
Today, you can visit the world’s largest model railway exhibit, Miniature Wunderland, a fantastic attraction that offers a realistic miniature world. It has over 1,000 trains, 10,000 railway carriages, and a total length of track over 15 kilometers in length. It’s a great place for families with kids but is also an excellent attraction for railway enthusiasts. The venue covers various themes such as the Alps, Scandinavia, and North America.
Day 6: Alster Lake and Boat Trip
Enjoy a day by the lovely Alster lake, which is one of the lushest city centers of Hamburg. You can experience the beautiful landscape by taking a boat ride around the lake while enjoying the sight of swans and joggers passing by. It’s a perfect opportunity for a picnic by the lake, and it is the perfect place to relax after a busy schedule of sightseeing. Alternatively, you can paddle around the lake enjoying kayaking, paddleboarding or sailing.
Day 7: Visit to the Speicherstadt
Spend your last day in Hamburg exploring one of its most famous landmarks, Speicherstadt, a part of Hamburg that was added to the list of UNESCO world heritage sites in 2015. This historic warehouse district was built between 1883 and 1927, and you will find beautiful redbrick buildings, canals and old bridges. You can visit the Spice Museum, international coffee museum and the Museum of Customs and Excise. You can have a hot coffee, eat a pastry and watch the trading boats passing through the canals.
