Day 1: Arrival and Acropolis Museum

Once you arrive in Athens, you can check into your hotel, freshen up and head out to explore the city. Start your trip by visiting the Acropolis Museum, which is a modern architectural marvel with a collection of ancient Greek artifacts and sculptures. The museum is built over an archeological site and houses the remains of a 2,500-year-old Athenian neighborhood. Take some time to learn about Greek history and culture before stepping outside to see the Acropolis hill in all its glory. If you have time, visit the nearby Ancient Agora, which was the commercial, political, and social center of ancient Athens.

Day 2: The Parthenon and Plaka

Today, it’s time to explore the iconic Parthenon. You can start your day by visiting the Acropolis and admiring the stunning Parthenon temple, which dates back to the 5th century BC. It was built to honor the goddess Athena and it’s considered the symbol of Greek civilization. After your visit, head to the charming neighborhood of Plaka, which is known for its alleys, shops and traditional Greek tavernas. The neighborhood is located at the foot of the Acropolis and you can take a walk through its cobbled streets, enjoy some Greek food or buy souvenirs.

Day 3: Cape Sounion and Apollo Temple

Today, escape the city noise and visit Cape Sounion which is located at the southernmost tip of mainland Greece. It’s home to the Temple of Poseidon, which was built in the 5th century BC. This temple is dedicated to the god of the sea and is known for its stunning sunsets and panoramic views across the Aegean Sea. You can enjoy a scenic drive along the coast, and stop by the beaches and villages along the way. If you have time, you could also go hiking in the nearby hills.

Day 4: National Archaeological Museum and Lycabettus Hill

Today, you can visit the National Archaeological Museum which is one of the most important museums in the world and is home to a vast collection of ancient art and artifacts, including Mycenaean, Cycladic, and Minoan art. You can learn about ancient Greek civilization, mythology and art. Later in the day, visit Lycabettus Hill, which is the highest point in Athens. You can take a funicular to the top or hike to the summit. Once there, take in the panoramic views of the city and enjoy the picturesque sunset.

Day 5: Monastiraki Flea Market and Syntagma Square

Today, it’s time to explore the vibrant city center of Athens. Start your day by visiting the Monastiraki Flea Market where you can buy everything from souvenirs to jewelry, and antiques to clothes, and indulge in traditional foods. From there, walk to Syntagma Square, which is the heart of the city and the place where the Greek Parliament is located. You can watch the changing of the guard in front of the parliament building, visit the National Garden, or take a stroll down Stadiou Street to see some of the most impressive neoclassical buildings in the city.

Day 6: Athenian Riviera and Vouliagmeni Lake

Spend your sixth day exploring the Athenian Riviera. Take a coastal drive to the town of Vouliagmeni, which is located on the edge of the Saronic Gulf. Here, visit the Vouliagmeni Lake, which is a picturesque lagoon where you can lounge by the water, have a drink or enjoy the natural thermal hot springs. You can also swim in the crystal-clear waters of the Aegean Sea. After, visit the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion for a beautiful sunset.

Day 7: Day Trip to Hydra Island

On your final day, take a day trip to Hydra Island which is known for its picturesque harbor, crystal clear waters and quiet town. Hydra is a preserved island that has maintained its traditional way of life. Here, there are no cars or motorbikes allowed and all transportation is done on foot or by donkey. Explore the charming village, swim in the crystal-clear waters, take a walk along the coast or hike into the hills for some stunning views before taking a ferry back to Athens.
