Trip to Szeged, Hungary

Day 1: Arrival and Sagredi Vasútállomás

You’ll be arriving in Szeged and I suggest that you start your vacation by visiting the Sagredi Vasútállomás, a railway station that was built in the early 1900s. This station is well-known for its Art Nouveau architecture which is characterized by unique shapes and ornate decorations. If time allows, you can spend some time exploring the nearby streets and cafes to experience local culture and hospitality.

Day 2: Visit Dom Square

Today, we’ll be going to the city center to visit Dom Square. This is a popular tourist attraction in Szeged due to its stunning architecture that dates back to the 18th century. Admire the beautiful buildings in the square, such as the Votive Church of Our Lady of Hungary, which was built to commemorate those who died in the great flood of 1879. Afterward, we can take a stroll along the Tisza River to enjoy the cool breeze.

Day 3: Shopping and Nightlife

On this day, I recommend that you visit the Grand Market, which is known for its abundance and variety of fresh produce, meats, and local craft. Besides the produce section, you can also find vendors selling traditional Hungarian souvenirs such as paprika, pottery, and embroidered fabrics. As the evening sets, you can head over to the city center where many bars and clubs are located for some nightlife experience.

Day 4: Visit Móra Ferenc Museum

The Móra Ferenc Museum is a must-visit attraction in Szeged. It is home to a vast collection of artifacts, ranging from archeological discoveries to historic manuscripts. The museum also houses several art exhibits that feature works from local artists dating back to the 19th century. Afterward, you can head over to the nearby botanical garden to relax and enjoy nature.

Day 5: Szeged Zoo

Spend some time today in the Szeged Zoo, which is home to over 500 animals from around the world. From tigers to bears and zebras, you can see a diverse range of creatures while learning about their habits and habitats. Besides the animals, you can also visit the historic Fort Morgan, which dates back to the 18th century and was used to defend the city against Ottoman invasions.

Day 6: Szent István tér

On this day, visit Szent István tér, which is a large public square that is surrounded by beautiful buildings with different architectural styles. At the corner of the square, stands the Town Hall which you can visit to learn about the history of Szeged. Nearby, you can visit the beautiful synagogue which was built in the 19th century and is considered to be one of the most beautiful synagogues in Europe.

Day 7: Homoki Winery and Departure

On your last day in Szeged, visit Homoki Winery which is located just outside of the city. This winery is known for its excellent wine production methods and its locally-grown grape varieties. You can enjoy a wine tasting session while learning about the wine-making process. Afterward, we will transport you to the airport or train station for your onward journey.
