Trip to Reykjavik, Iceland
Day 1: Arrival and Relaxation
Upon your arrival to Reykjavik, check in to your hotel and settle in for a relaxing day. Reykjavik has many lovely spas and hot springs that you can indulge in after a long day of traveling. One of the best is the Blue Lagoon, located half an hour away from the city center. The Blue Lagoon is a geothermal spa and is known for its warm, mineral-rich waters that come from natural sources up to 6,500 feet below the Earth’s surface. Alternatively, take a stroll along the city’s streets and sample some of Iceland’s traditional dishes. End the day with a drink at one of the city’s many bars featuring Icelandic craft beer.
Day 2: A Tour of Reykjavik
Take a walking tour of the city, starting with the colorful city center, with its iconic landmarks such as the Hallgrimskirkja Cathedral and the Harpa Concert Hall, two of the city’s most interesting structures. Learn more about the history of the town and visit the National Museum of Iceland to learn more about its cultural heritage. In the evening, head over to the Austurvöllur Square and enjoy the restaurants and cafes that surround the area.
Day 3: The Golden Circle
Get to know Iceland beyond just Reykjavik by taking a day tour of the Golden Circle. The tour will take you to some of Iceland’s most popular natural attractions, including the geysers at Geysir, Gullfoss Waterfall, and Thingvellir National Park, which is considered one of Iceland’s most beautiful sights and one of the few places where you can observe the cresting of two tectonic plates in the world.
Day 4: The South Shore Adventure
Today you’ll visit the south shore of Iceland on a day tour. The south shore is a perfect mix of glaciers, black sand beaches, and beautiful waterfalls. Visit the picturesque Skógafoss waterfall and the Seljalandsfoss, a unique waterfall that forms a curtain-like wall with a footpath behind it. To end the day, visit the Solheimajokull Glacier.
Day 5: The Reykjanes Peninsula
Drive or take a coach to the Reykjanes Peninsula and travel around this beautiful region. The peninsula is one of Iceland’s best-kept secrets, with volcanic craters, geothermal hot springs, a lake filled with blue-green water, and the famous Bridge Between Continents where you can see the rift between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates.
Day 6: Whale Watching Expedition
Head out on the ocean with a whale watching expedition! During the trip you might see humpback whales, minke whales, or killer whales, together with various bird species, dolphins and seals.
