Day 1: Arrival in Chennai
Upon your arrival at Chennai International Airport, you’ll be greeted by our representative who will escort you safely to your hotel where you can freshen up after your long flight. Depending on your arrival time, after checking into the hotel you can explore the local markets and grab some delicious street food. It is recommended to visit Marina Beach, the largest and most popular beach in Chennai.
Day 2: Chennai Sightseeing
Today you will visit various famous landmarks and religious sites which include Fort St. George, Kapaleeshwar Temple, and Santhome Cathedral Basilica. Fort St George is a historical building located in the center of Chennai, built in the 17th century. The Kapaleeshwar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and draws thousands of devotees every day. Santhome Cathedral Basilica is a famous Christian church built over St. Thomas’ tomb.
Day 3: Shopping at T Nagar
T Nagar is a shopper’s heaven situated in the heart of Chennai. With a blend of traditional and modern options, this market offers everything from sarees, dresses, and jewelry to books and electronic items. You can try to bargain and negotiate for a good price. You can also try the local street food in between shopping, such as Vada pav, Biryani, Pani Puri and Masala Dosa.
Day 4: Day Trip to Mahabalipuram
Take a day trip from Chennai to Mahabalipuram to explore some of India’s best preserved 7th and 8th century temples and rock-cut shrines. Some of the top sites include the five Rathas, the Shore Temple and the Pancha Pandava Rathas. Apart from historical significance, Mahabalipuram also offers spectacular views of the Bay of Bengal as it lies on the coast.
Day 5: Marina Beach and Lighthouse
Start your day early at Marina Beach to witness a beautiful sunrise. Walk along the shore watching the local fishermen and then proceed to the lighthouse. The lighthouse is one of the few old lighthouses in India and has eleven floors. From the top, the views of the city and surrounding areas are simply breathtaking. There are some great local cafes nearby serving delicious South Indian food.
Day 6: Day Trip to Pondicherry
Pondicherry, a former French colony, is famous for its unique blend of French and Indian architecture. Visit some historic colonial buildings, museums, and churches in the French Quarters. You can also explore the local markets, go on a boat ride in Chunnambar backwaters or spend some time at the beach. Make sure to try the French pastry and macaroons from Café des Arts.
Day 7: Nightlife in Chennai
Your last day in Chennai can be spent experiencing the city’s nightlife. The city is home to many great pubs and clubs that offer a fun night out. Some popular places include The Leather Bar, The Moon & Sixpence, and 10 Downing Street. For those who don’t want to indulge in partying, you can visit the iconic Chennai Central Railway Station and learn about its significance in the city’s history.
Day 8: Departure
Pack your bags and head to Chennai International Airport for your journey back home.
