Day 1: Arrival and Exploring Tehran
Upon arrival at the Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport, you can check into your hotel and spend the rest of the day exploring the vibrant city of Tehran. As the capital and largest city of Iran, Tehran has a rich history and cultural heritage to offer. Start by visiting Golestan Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site dating back to the Qajar era, where you can explore the majestic halls and gardens. Then head to the Tehran Grand Bazaar, where you can find an array of goods such as spices, textiles, and carpets. Lastly, take a stroll in the beautiful Laleh Park, which is a perfect spot to relax after a long day.
Day 2: Discover Tehran’s Art Scene
Begin your day by visiting Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, which has a permanent collection of art by Iranian and international artists, including works by Monet, Pollock, and Warhol. Then stop by the Niavaran Palace Complex, another iconic palace in Tehran that was once a summer residence for the Shah Pahlavi family. Finish off your day by wandering through the beautiful Darband Village, which has many restaurants, cafes, and shops offering traditional Persian goods.
Day 3: Day Trip to Alborz Mountains
Take a day trip from Tehran to the Alborz Mountains, which are only an hour away. You can visit the Tochal Ski Resort, which is the highest ski resort in Iran, offering breathtaking views of the city. Hike to the top to get more spectacular views or ride the telecabin if you are not one for hiking. For those who want a more relaxing pace, Darakeh Old Village offers a peaceful getaway surrounded by mountains and greenery, with plenty of cafes and restaurants where you can enjoy traditional Persian cuisine.
Day 4: Visit Tehran’s Landmarks
Begin your day by visiting one of the most iconic landmarks in Tehran, the Azadi Tower, which was built in 1971 to celebrate the 2,500th anniversary of the Persian Empire. After that, head to the Milad Tower, the sixth-tallest tower in the world, which offers a panoramic view of the city. Complete your day by taking a stroll at Tabiat Bridge, an award-winning pedestrian bridge that has become a symbol of Tehran.
Day 5: Experience Tehran’s Nightlife
Start your evening at one of the many traditional Persian restaurants in Tehran such as Shandiz or Alborz. After a well-deserved meal, head to Ferdowsi Avenue, which is lined with bars and clubs offering live music and entertainment until the early hours of the morning. Some of the popular clubs are Divan, Shisha Bar, and Diagonal Alley. Tehran is known for its vibrant nightlife and this is the perfect opportunity to experience it!
Day 6: Day Trip to Qom
Take a day trip from Tehran to Qom, which is the second holiest city in Iran after Mashhad. You can visit the Fatima Masumeh Shrine, which is considered a sacred place by Shia Muslims, and the Al-Mustafa International University, which is one of the largest Islamic seminaries in the world. Also, Qom Bazaar offers a lot of traditional handicraft goods and souvenirs for you to take home.
Day 7: Relax and Departure
For your final day in Tehran, take it easy and relax. You may want to indulge in a traditional Persian bath and sauna at Simin Dakhmeye Firuzeh, or one of Tehran’s many luxury spas. Afterward, grab some last-minute souvenirs and gifts at Tehran’s many shopping centers such as the Palladium Mall or the Tehran Mega Mall. Finally, head back to the hotel to pack and get ready for your return home.
