Day 1: Arrival
Welcome to Urmia, Iran! After arriving at the airport and settling in to your hotel, take some time to explore the city on foot. Begin by visiting the Urmia Lake, the largest lake in Iran. The lake is surrounded by beautiful nature and is a great place to relax and enjoy the views. In the evening, head to Urmia Bazaar and experience the lively atmosphere of Persian-style bazaars. The bazaar offers a diverse range of products such as handicrafts, spices, and souvenirs.
Day 2: Chaparkhaneh Historical House
Today, visit the Chaparkhaneh Historical House, which was once a post office and now represents a significant piece of Iran’s history. The house has a unique architecture that showcases a blend of traditional Iranian and modern European styles. Afterward, head to Shahriar Boulevard, where many restaurants and coffee shops are located. Here, you can taste some of the traditional Persian foods and drinks.
Day 3: Naqsh-e Jahan Square
Start your day by heading to Naqsh-e Jahan Square, one of the most beautiful squares in the world. Take a few hours to stroll around and enjoy the view of the historical structures in the square. The Ali Qapu Palace and Shah Mosque are just a few of the notable places to visit in this square. Day 4: Urmia Ancient Castle & Anthropology Museum
Today, visit the Urmia Ancient Castle to discover its history and take a tour of the Anthropology Museum within the castle. The museum houses valuable historical items and artifacts from the surrounding region. After the tour, head to the Shahab Graveyard and take a walk among the beautiful architecture and green spaces.
Day 5: St. Thaddeus Monastery
Take a 3 hour drive out of the city to visit the St. Thaddeus Monastery. The monastery is located on a rocky hill and is one of the oldest religious sites in Iran. Enjoy a delicious picnic while taking in the stunning views of the surrounding landscape. In the evening, take a stroll around the beautiful Shahar Yeri historical neighborhood, filled with various restaurants and coffee shops.
Day 6: Shams Tabrizi Tomb
Today, visit the Shams Tabrizi Tomb, which is considered a sacred place by many Iranians. Shams Tabrizi was a Sufi mystic and spiritual master, who was notably the spiritual teacher of Rumi. The tomb is architecturally unique and worth a visit. In the afternoon, head to Van Lake to take a boat tour and enjoy the picturesque mountains, gardens, and picnic areas.
Day 7: Urmia Zoo
End your trip by visiting the Urmia Zoo, which is one of the most popular attractions in the city. The zoo is a home to a wide range of animals and birds that are native to Iran’s different regions. After the zoo, take the time to visit the Hay Castle, situated atop a hill overlooking the city, offering breathtaking views of the unique architecture of Urmia.
