Day 1: Arrival and Local Eats

Welcome to Fukuoka! On your first day, take a stroll through the popular district of Tenjin and explore the local eateries. Try street food favorites such as tonkotsu ramen, mentaiko (spicy cod roe), and yakitori (grilled chicken skewers). The Hakata-style ramen is a must-try delicacy of Fukuoka, and you can find several spots serving it in Tenjin.

Day 2: Visit Atago Shrine and City Museum

On your second day, take a trip to Atago Shrine, famously known as the shrine of national security, located on top of a hill where you can see an amazing panoramic view of the city from above. You will also find the Fukuoka City Museum adjacent to Atago Shrine. Dive into the history of the city and explore artifacts and displays dating back to ancient Japan. Evening, go to the Fukuoka Tower and see the breathtaking view of Fukuoka city at night.

Day 3: Explore the Canal City Hakata

Start your day with a visit to the famous Canal City Hakata, a large shopping and entertainment complex built around a canal. Canal City Hakata offers a wide range of shopping options, restaurants and movie theaters amongst other leisure activities. Browse through the shops, grab a bite to eat, watch a movie or play a round of bowling. At night, check out Fukuoka’s nightlife scene in the Tenjin or Nakasu areas.

Day 4: Beach day at Momochi Beach

Take a break from the city and head to Momochi Beach for some fun in the sun! This man-made beach offers spectacular views of Fukuoka Tower and the city skyline. Relax on the beach, play water sports, rent a bike or take a walk along the beach promenade.

Day 5: Visit Nanzoin Temple

On your fifth day, visit the tranquil Nanzoin Temple, located on the outskirts of Fukuoka city. This temple is known for its massive bronze statue of the reclining Buddha, which is one of the largest in the world. The Buddha statue is 41 meters long and nine meters high, and is a breathtaking sight to behold.

Day 6: Shop in Yanagawa

Take a day trip to Yanagawa, a small town located just over an hour from Fukuoka city. Yanagawa is known for its scenic canals and waterways, and is a popular spot for boat rides. Also, Yanagawa offers local shops that sell Japanese ceramics, cherry blossom-flavored ice cream, and many souvenirs you can get along the riverbanks.

Day 7: Visit Kushida Shrine & Departure

Visit the famous Kushida Shrine in the heart of Hakata district. Dedicated to Amaterasu (the goddess of the sun) and Susano-no-Mikoto (the god of the sea and storms), Kushida Shrine is famous for its summer festival, where O-mikoshi, a portable shrine, is carried around the streets of the city. After paying respects, spend the rest of the day exploring the surrounding district before heading to the airport for your departing flight.
