Trip to Nakuru, Kenya
Day 1: Arrival & Leisure Time
Today, you will arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi and be transferred to your hotel in Nakuru. You can relax, refresh, and explore the local area around your hotel. You may want to take a stroll to Lake Nakuru National Park on the outskirts of the city. Here, you will have an opportunity to see some of the endangered species such as the Rothschild’s giraffe, rhinos, buffalos, and so many species of birds.
Day 2: Day trip to Lake Naivasha and Hells Gate National Park
Day two will be exciting as it is packed with two locations: Lake Naivasha and Hells Gate National Park. After breakfast, you will take a 1.5-hour drive to Lake Naivasha, which is known for its beautiful volcanic formations. Here, you can hike around Mount Longonot and witness spectacular views of the lake some kilometers away.
Afterward, you can take a short drive to Hells Gate National Park. This park is beautiful and is home to various species of animals and birds like hyenas, buffalo, and baboons. You will have the opportunity to hike the gorge to the boiling geysers and springs or rent bikes to explore the vast park. In the evening, return to your hotel in Nakuru for a relaxing evening.
Day 3: Mitumba Market (Used Clothes Market) and Local Museum Visit
On day three, you will visit the Mitumba Market, also known as the Second-Hand Clothes Market. This is a popular market where you can buy affordable and stylish clothes. Here, you will meet locals and other visitors searching for great deals to add to their wardrobe.
Afterward, you will visit the Nakuru National Museum, where you will learn about the city’s history and culture. Additionally, the museum displays fascinating exhibitions about the Great Rift Valley, where Nakuru is located. You will be able to witness various tribal clothes, customs and artifacts that provide insight into Kenya’s rich heritage.
Day 4: Lake Nakuru National Park Game Drive
On day four, you will have a full day at Lake Nakuru National Park, one of the famous parks in Kenya. The park is known for its famous flamingos that flock along the lake in thousands. You will go on a game drive in search of rhinos, giraffes, buffalo, monkeys, and leopards. The park is home to the endangered Black and White Rhinoceros, and this is a superb opportunity to see them.
Day 5: Leisure Day
Today is a free day for you to relax and enjoy the beautiful ambiance in and around your hotel in Nakuru. There are many activities available such as golfing, swimming, hiking, and horse riding. You can stroll around Nakuru town and interact with locals to learn about their way of life.
Day 6: Nakuru Town Tour and Nakumatt Supermarket Visit
On day six, you will have a tour of the Nakuru town and market. You will explore the unique architecture styles of the various government buildings built during the colonial era. You can visit different stores that sell Kenyan artifacts, textiles, and sculptures as souvenirs. If you want to do some typical shopping, Nakumatt supermarket is the leading retail outlet in the city. It’s a modern shopping mall where you can find most of the essential commodities, including clothing, electronics, and groceries.
Day 7: Departure
Today you will say goodbye to Nakuru. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time for last-minute shopping or a few more sights before you are transported back to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. Here you can catch your flight to your next destination.
