Trip to Gjakova, Kosovo
Day 1: Arrival, City Tour and Tradition Dish
Upon arrival at Prishtina International Airport, you will be met by a guide who will assist you with your transfer to the hotel in Gjakova. Afterward, you can explore the city on a city tour, which includes visits to the Hadum Mosque, the Clock Tower, the Ethnographic museum, and the Albanian League of Prizren Museum. You can also take a stroll around the city center to see the Ottoman-style houses and enjoy the local cafes and restaurants.
You can then enjoy a delicious traditional meal at one of the local restaurants, popular for their slow-roasted lamb or veal, served with a variety of appetizers like peppers stuffed with cheese, shepherd salad, and spread made of red pepper, garlic, and eggplant.
Day 2: Gjakova city and shopping tour
Today, we’ll take a day trip to Gjakova’s city center, where you’ll be able to explore the streets and visit a few famous landmarks, such as the Grand Bazaar, Hadum Mosque, and Hammam. The city’s Ottoman-era bazaar has been restored and features shops selling everything from souvenirs and hand-crafted items to ceramics, jewelry, and vintage clothing.
After lunch, we will visit the Atik Mosque and climb up to observe the view of the entire city. Then, the tour will continue by exploring the Bazhdarhane Castle, which dates back to the 2nd century BC and features an excellent blend of Roman and Ottoman styles.
Day 3: Rugova Canyon and Winery Visits
Today, we will explore Utah’s stunning Rugova Canyon, located roughly 20 minutes from Gjakova. Along the way, we will visualize the canyon’s stunning nature, which includes colorful forests, streams, and dramatic cliffs.
Following to our canyon visit, we will enjoy the visit to the winery at Kallmeti where you will see how wine is made and enjoy local wines that are unique to the region. This will be followed by a tour of the vineyards where you will get to understand more about the wine-making process.
Day 4: Hiking in Prokletije National Park
Hiking in Prokletije National Park is an adventure that must not be missed. With its pristine nature, mountain ranges, and traditional Balkan-style villages, this park is a natural gem of Kosovo.
This region also serves as a gateway to some of the most popular peaks, including the Prokletije or “The Cursed” Mountains, which can be hiked after crossing the river.
Day 5: Peja day trip
Peja city is a historic and picturesque city located roughly 25 minutes’ drive north from Gjakova known as a booming administrative, commercial, cultural, and recreational center. We first visit the Patriarchate of Peć Monastery, a 13th-century Serbian Orthodox monastery that is part of UNESCO’s world heritage sites.
After lunch, we will head to the Center of Peja’s city where we will take a leisurely walk through the cobblestoned streets of the old town and bazaar, which is home to many shops selling traditional handicrafts, clothes, and souvenirs.
Day 6: Visit the Rugova Mountains
Today we will have a pleasant visit the Rugova mountains, just for another flavor of the famous canyon. This breathtaking landscape is dominated by the Rugova Canyon and offers multiple hiking trails to breathtaking viewpoints. After taking in the stunning views atop the mountains, we will take our leave and head back to the hotel.
Day 7: Departure
This is your last day in Kosovo, and after breakfast, you will be transferred to Prishtina Airport for your flight home.
