Trip to Essaouira, Morocco

Day 1: Arrival and Souk Markets

As you arrive in Essaouira, it’s worth taking a walk through the souk markets. These markets are very much the heartbeat of the city and offer a complete mix of items for sale. You will find everything from unique artisanal crafts to clothing and homewares. The sellers are more patient and less pushy than those in Marrakesh, making this a slightly more relaxing environment. After a day of bargain hunting and taking in Moroccan culture, end your day by eating authentic Moroccan cuisine.

Day 2: Explore Skala de la Ville

Begin your second day by exploring the Skala de la Ville. This old fortress and gun battery are situated on the northern end of Essaouira. Walking along the walls, you will be presented with stunning sights of the surrounding sea. The atmosphere is magical, the acoustics of the waves crashing against the rocks add the perfect soundtrack to your scenery. This is a scenic introduction to Essaouira and will allow you to get an unparalleled view of this city.

Day 3: Take a Cooking Class and Enjoy a Camel Ride

During day three of your Moroccan adventure, take a cooking class. The class will give you the opportunity to learn how to cook and experience traditional Moroccan dishes first-hand. After a morning spent learning about cooking, take part in a camel ride and head to the nearby beach. You will spend time watching the waves crash along the shore while riding through the warm sand.

Day 4: Beach Fun at Sidi Kaouki

On the fourth day, sneak away from the city and travel to the less crowded Sidi Kaouki Beach. This is also a gorgeous location if you are looking for a little break from the city and to recharge. Take some time to ride a horse along the sand or take a half-hour lesson on the dunes. With a beach bar on site and fantastic views of the Atlantic Ocean, this is a perfect location for a romantic day away.

Day 5: Visit the Essaouira Citadel

Spend your fifth day in Essaouira visiting the Essaouira Citadel. This is an UNESCO World Heritage Site and is located on a small island situated in between the new and old harbours. This impressive fortification is surrounded by a maze of narrow streets, making it both beautiful and interesting. Once you’ve explored the different sights the Citadel has to offer, head to the street cafes to have a pot of Moroccan tea.

Day 6: Go Windsurfing in Essaouira

Your sixth day in Essaouira should be spent taking part in the windsurfing activities that are on offer. If you haven’t tried windsurfing, now is the perfect opportunity to learn. There are several companies that offer lessons, so nobody in your group will be left behind. The combination of clear weather, steady winds and the endless sea make Essaouira an ideal destination for wind sports enthusiasts.

Day 7: Essaouira’s Nightlife

Your final day in Essaouira should be spent enjoying the nightlife. If you’re a fan of both music and drinks, take a stroll around some of the famous bars within the city. Start with a hearty meal and then embrace the local culture by drinking a traditional cocktail. The people in Essaouira are friendly, so don’t be shy. Sit down and talk to the locals, enjoy the atmosphere of Essaouira at night.
