Ouarzazate, Morocco

Ouarzazate, Morocco is a city located in the south-central region of Morocco that is known for its beautiful kasbahs, desert landscapes, and film industry. It’s a great destination for outdoor enthusiasts, history buffs, and for those who want to explore Morocco’s vibrant culture.

Trip to Ouarzazate, Morocco

Day 1: Arrival

Welcome to Morocco! Upon arrival at the airport, you’ll be met by your driver and taken to your hotel in Ouarzazate. After check-in, you can spend the rest of the day at leisure, exploring the city on your own, or simply relaxing at your hotel.

Day 2: Ait Ben Haddou

Today, you’ll take a guided tour to the historic fortified village of Ait Ben Haddou. This UNESCO World Heritage site located about an hour’s drive away from Ouarzazate is one of Morocco’s most famous attractions and has provided the backdrop for numerous Hollywood blockbusters. The village is a fine example of southern Moroccan architecture with traditional earthen clay houses that form a complex of over 400 structures. During the tour, you’ll also have a chance to learn about the area’s fascinating history and culture, and meet the friendly Berber people who call this place home.

Day 3: Kasbah Taourirt and Tifoultoute

Today, you’ll explore two of the most impressive kasbahs (fortresses) in the region. Kasbah Taourirt was once the former residence of the Glaoui family, the influential Berber chieftains who ruled southern Morocco during the French Protectorate. The fortress rises like a mirage from the desert plains, with its sand-colored walls and turrets rising above the palms and bougainvillea that surround it. Afterward, you’ll head to Kasbah Tifoultoute, a massive fortress that sits atop a hill overlooking the city below. The kasbah is steeped in history, and as you explore its winding courtyards, you will certainly feel transported back in time.

Day 4: Zagora and the Draa Valley

After breakfast, you’ll head to Zagora and the Draa Valley, the longest river in Morocco. The day tour will take you through winding mountain passes, dust-red valleys, and palm-lined oases. You’ll make several stops along the way, including in the town of Agdz where you’ll explore the local souks (markets) selling items such as pottery, spices, and traditional Berber carpets. You will also stop at the stunning village of Tamnougalt, a hidden gem that is well preserved and often overlooked by most travelers. Your final stop will be at the gate of the Sahara Desert, where you can take a camel ride and watch the sun set over the dunes before making your way back to Ouarzazate.

Day 5: Aït Bougmez valley

Today, you’ll have the chance to explore the beautiful Aït Bougmez valley situated in the High Atlas Mountains. Known as the “happy valley” of the Berbers, here you can learn about the history and culture of the indigenous people who live here and appreciate the stunning vistas of the snow-capped mountains, lush landscapes, and traditional Berber villages. You will also have an opportunity to explore the valley’s fertile fields, lush green terraces cascading down the mountainside, and vibrant traditional communities that have remained largely untouched by modernity.

Day 6: Marrakech

Today, you’ll take an early morning transfer to the bustling city of Marrakech, often referred to as the “Red City" due to its red-colored walls and its former status as an important imperial city. There is so much to see and do in Marrakech including visits to the famous markets, Bahia palace, Koutoubia Mosque, Saadian Tombs and the Majorelle gardens. You can also enjoy a traditional Moroccan lunch in one of the city’s many restaurants or take a stroll through the vibrant Jardin Majorelle, an oasis in the heart of the city.

Day 7: Departure

Sadly it’s time to say goodbye to Morocco. Your driver will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to the airport in time for your flight back home.
