Trip to Prilep, North Macedonia

Day 1: Arrival

Welcome to Prilep, North Macedonia! Today is a day to get settled in and relaxed after your travels. Upon arrival, check into your mid-to-high-end hotel or AirBnb and take the rest of the day to explore the area around your accommodation. There are plenty of local cafes, restaurants, and shops that can give you a taste of North Macedonian culture.

Day 2: Prilep Old Town Walking Tour

Today, you will embark on a guided walking tour of Prilep’s Old Town, one of the city’s highlights. The walking tour, which lasts around two hours, will showcase the old architecture of the city as well as explore the history and culture of Prilep. As you stroll through the cobblestone streets, you will see beautiful old houses, churches, mosques, and bazaars. After your tour, you have the rest of the day to keep on exploring the city at your leisure.

Day 3: Wine Tasting and Vineyard Tour

This morning, you’ll visit a vineyard in the Prilep region for a wine tasting and winery tour. You will learn about the history of winemaking, as well as how the process has evolved over time. You also get to taste some local and traditional wines of the region. The vineyard also offers some delicious snacks, so it’s worth staying for that.

Day 4: Pelagonia Region- Ancient City of Stobi

On day 4, you’ll go on a trip to the fascinating Pelagonia region- specifically to visit the Ancient City of Stobi. Stobi is an ancient city and archaeological site located in central North Macedonia. The site contains numerous well-preserved antique structures, including the ancient theatre, decorative flooring called mosaics, and the town’s marketplace called the “agora”. The site is very well signposted, and you can spend a few hours just exploring the area.

Day 5: Prilep and Bitola

Today, you’ll take a trip to Bitola, a nearby town known for its Turkish bazaar, fortresses, and an excellent museum. You’ll also stop at Heraclea Lyncestis, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed archaeological site which is still being excavated. After some lunch, you will head back to Prilep to explore more of the city in the evening.

Day 6: Tikves Winery Tour

On day six, you will head to the Tikves Wine region which is considered to be one of the best wine regions in the Balkans. Here, you’ll visit the Tikves Winery, which has been producing wines since 1885 using authentic techniques. On the winery tour, you will learn about the production of the wine, and you’ll also have the opportunity to sample some of the winery’s finest wines. Later in the evening, you’ll have time to enjoy some of Prilep’s nightlife at one of the city’s bars, clubs or casinos.

Day 7: End of Trip

On the last day, it is a free day for you to explore the scenic surroundings of Prilep, engage with locals and relax before departing for home. You could grab an outdoor lunch, or take some special souvenirs back home with you after some shopping. Later in the day, you will head to the airport or the train station for your return journey home.
