Trip to Stavanger, Norway

Day 1: Arrival & Check-in

Welcome to Stavanger, Norway! Arrive at Stavanger Airport and make your way to your hotel to check-in and freshen up. Depending on your arrival time, you may want to take a stroll around the city and get familiar with the area. You could also enjoy the many shopping opportunities such as the Kvadrat Shopping Centre, which boasts over 170 stores, from high-end designer brands to unique boutiques. While you are at it, make sure to grab a delicious meal at any of the restaurants that catch your fancy. Stavanger offers a variety of cuisines so there is something for everyone.

Day 2: Stavanger Tour

Begin your second day in Stavanger with a morning tour of the city. Visit the colourful 18th-century wooden houses at Old Stavanger and the stunning Stavanger Cathedral, which dates back to the 12th century. You can also take a stroll down the picturesque streets of Øvre Holmegate, the city’s vibrant, pedestrianised street that is known for its trendy cafes, unique shops and colourful buildings. Make sure to stop at the Norwegian Petroleum Museum where you can learn about and experience Norway’s oil and gas industry. For the evening, I suggest visiting Mathallen Stavanger, an indoor food market where you can enjoy a range of local and international cuisines.

Day 3: Lysefjord Cruise

On your third day, head out on a Lysefjord Cruise to explore the stunning cliffs and scenery of the fjords. It is one of fjord Norway’s most iconic destinations, and rightly so, as the sheer, glacier-carved cliffs and idyllic islands are breathtaking. Along the way, you will also get the chance to see the world-famous Pulpit Rock from the water. If you like, you can choose to hike up to Pulpit Rock (note:it’s a 3 hour hike) once you return from your cruise. The view at the top is an absolute must-see and will leave you with unforgettable memories. Once you are done with the hike, you could head back to the city center for some delicious Norwegian cuisine for dinner. For a unique dining experience, check out Tango Restaurant which offers Nordic cuisine with a modern twist.

Day 4: Sola Beach & Lighthouse

On your 4th Day, I suggest visiting Sola Beach which is only 15 minutes away from the city center by car. It is one of the largest beaches in the area, which makes it perfect for a leisurely stroll along the shore or a day of sunbathing. While you are there, be sure to check out the Solastranden surfing beach. After spending time at the beach you can head over to the Sola lighthouse for great views of the panoramic view of the Norwegian coastline. For your evening, I recommend heading to Ostehuset, a restaurant that offers fresh, locally-sourced ingredients.

Day 5: Stavanger Art Galleries & Museums

Start your fifth day by heading over to Kunstmuseum, a museum that features over 1,100 works of art as well as providing a glimpse into the local art scene. After that, you can visit the Stavanger Museum of Fine Arts where they offer temporary exhibits all year round. You could then take a short break for lunch at Sol Stuene, a cozy restaurant that is known for its freshly baked bread and other delicious meals. For the evening, I suggest heading over to Checkpoint Charlie, a multi-level venue that combines a bar, nightclub, and live music venue.

Day 6: Flor og Fjaere Island Trip

Your 6th Day in Stavanger will be spent at Flor og Fjaere Island, which is just a 30 minute boat ride away from Stavanger. The island has a beautiful botanical garden with plant and flower species from all parts of the world. It is a perfect setting for a peaceful day trip and also features a stunning view of Stavanger and the surrounding islands. After returning back from the botanical garden and boat ride back, you could head to Taqueria Del Mar for some amazing Mexican seafood cuisine.
