Trip to Machu Picchu, Peru

Day 1: Arrival in Cusco

Welcome to Cusco! On your first day in Peru, you’ll arrive in the city of Cusco, the former capital of the Incan Empire. After settling in to your hotel, we recommend taking a stroll around the Plaza de Armas, the main square of the city and a hub of activity. You can see the stunning Cusco Cathedral and the Temple of the Sun, both located on the square. If you still have energy left, you can visit the San Pedro Market for some local flavor and souvenir shopping. Don’t miss the chance to try some of the local delicacies like cuy (guinea pig) and chicha (a fermented corn drink).

Day 2: Discovering Cusco

On your second day, it’s time to explore the former capital of the Incan Empire. You will visit some of the city’s famous sites like the Incan ruin of Sacsayhuaman, an impressive fortress with amazing stonework, and the Coricancha, a beautiful temple dedicated to the sun god. You can also visit the bohemian neighborhood of San Blas, with its cobblestone streets and talented artisans. This is the perfect place to purchase some of the beautiful textiles and other crafts that are so unique to this region.

Day 3: Train to Aguas Calientes

On your third day, we recommend taking the train from Cusco to Aguas Calientes, the town at the base of Machu Picchu. You’ll be traveling through the stunning Andean countryside, with beautiful mountain ranges and rushing rivers. Once in Aguas Calientes, you can relax in the hot springs, take a stroll around the colorful town and enjoy some of the local cuisine.

Day 4: Machu Picchu

This is the day you’ve been waiting for! Early in the morning, you’ll take a bus to the entrance of Machu Picchu, one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world. You will be amazed by the stunning views of the ruins and the surrounding mountains, and learn about the fascinating history of the site from your guide. After the tour, you can hike up to the Sun Gate, offering breathtaking views of the site, or visit the Temple of the Moon, a lesser-known Incan ruin nearby.

Day 5: Rainbow Mountain Tour

On day 5, we recommend taking a tour to the stunning and photogenic Rainbow Mountain. You’ll travel through the scenic countryside, drive past small villages and see the traditional way of life of the Andean people. After a bus ride, you’ll start a beautiful trek up to the Rainbow Mountain, passing by stunning lagoons, animals grazing, and astounding views of the rocky terrain. Once you reach the mountain, you’ll discover the beautiful colors of the rock, against the backdrop of the mountain peaks and valleys. This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Day 6: Free Day in Cusco

On your second last day in Peru, you can relax and explore Cusco on your own. Perhaps you would like to treat yourself to a spa day or even do some shopping in the quaint Cusco boutiques. You could visit some of the museums, like the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo, known for its amazing collections of Peruvian contemporary art. Or, you can get adventurous and visit the “Inca Baths” just outside of Cusco, famous for being the place where the Incas traditionally went for a bath.

Day 7: Departure

Today is your last day in Peru. After breakfast, you can take some time to say goodbye to the beautiful city of Cusco and all the experiences it offered you. You’ll have plenty of amazing memories to take home with you!
