Day 1: Arrival and Exploring the City Center

You can also take a stroll down the famous pedestrian street of Kej 18. This area is filled with local bars and restaurants, where you can enjoy traditional food and drinks while people-watching and taking in the lively atmosphere of the city. In the evening, head over to the Fortress of Niš, a historic landmark where you can watch a stunning sunset over the city.

Day 2: History and Culture of Niš

Explore the rich history and culture of Niš by visiting its most famous landmarks. Begin by visiting the Nišava River Gorge, the location of the ancient Roman site of Mediana. This palace once belonged to Emperor Constantine and is now a well-preserved archeological site, complete with beautiful mosaics and reconstructed rooms. Next, head to the Skull Tower, a unique and somewhat morbid landmark built by the Ottomans in the 19th century. This tower features an exterior made up of the skulls of Serbian revolutionaries. Finish your day by visiting The Fortress of Niš, which dates all the way back to the Ottoman Empire and contains many interesting artifacts and exhibits.

Day 3: Nature and Adventure

Today we recommend visiting the nearby national park of Stara Planina. The park is situated on a magical mountain range, where you can enjoy hiking or even hang-gliding. This is a perfect way to experience the serene and untouched natural landscape of Serbia. After a fun-filled day, head back to Niš and unwind with a traditional Serbian dinner at one of the local taverns.

Day 4: Shopping and souvenir hunting

Shop for some local souvenirs today at the local markets and boutiques. The City Market, where you can pick up fresh produce or hand-crafted goods, is definitely worth visiting. Another great shopping spot is the Mercator Center where you can find many types of retailers. If you’re looking to pick up some unique local souvenirs, head to Nišava Ethno Park for incredibly intricate handmade crafts.

Day 5: Relaxation and Spa

Start with local sweets such as baklava at the nearby pastry shop, and head on to local restaurants such as “Nišlijska Mehana” where you can order tripe soup, a local dish that embraces the heritage of Serbia. End the day at the local Rakija Bar where you can experience the unique plum brandy that the region is famous for.
