Day 1: Arrival in Hermanus
Welcome to Hermanus! Upon arrival at Cape Town International Airport, pick up your rental car and drive to your hotel in Hermanus which will take approximately 90 minutes. Check into your hotel and spend the rest of the day exploring the surroundings. Hermanus is known for its world-renowned whale watching, and it is a good idea to start your visit in the town by taking a stroll along the cliff path, a walkway that winds its way along the coast and offers spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean. In the evening, head to the bustling Hermanus Market Square where you can find several options for dining and shopping.
Day 2: Wine Tasting
Today, experience the lush wine valleys of the Hemel-en-Aarde and Walker Bay. The drive from Hermanus to Hemel-en-Aarde will take approximately 20 minutes. At Hamilton Russell Vineyards, enjoy the magnificent view of the vineyards with a glass of their award-winning Pinot Noir or Chardonnay. Proceed to Creation Wines, where you can taste some of South Africa’s finest wines while indulging in a food pairing experience. On your way back to Hermanus, make a stop at the iconic Newton Johnson Vineyards for a tasting of their premium Pinot Noir.
Day 3: Beach Day
Today, take a break from the hustle and bustle and head to one of Hermanus’ pristine beaches. Grotto Beach is a wide stretch of white sand that stretches for miles. The Blue Flag beach has excellent facilities and is perfect for swimming, sunbathing and surfing. In the evening, head to the trendy Fick’s Restaurant for a four-course meal, where you can enjoy some of the best seafood in the region.
Day 4: Shark Diving
Indulge in some adventure today and head out on a shark diving tour. The drive from Hermanus to Gansbaai, which is known as the Great White Shark capital of the world, will take approximately 45 minutes. Upon arrival, you will head out to sea for a cage diving experience with these incredible creatures. For those who prefer to stay dry, a shark viewing experience from the safety of the boat is also available. After your exhilarating experience, head back to Hermanus and get ready for a well-deserved night out in one of the many bars and pubs in the town.
Day 5: Cape Agulhas
Today, get ready for a scenic drive to Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet. The drive from Hermanus to Cape Agulhas will take approximately 120 minutes. Stop off at the quaint seaside town of Struisbaai, and take a walk on their beautiful beach to see the 19th-century shipwreck that still lies rest on the beach. At Cape Agulhas, enjoy the spectacular view of the rugged coastline and take a photo at the famous landmark that marks the meeting point of the two great oceans.
Day 6: Arts and Crafts
Today, take a stroll through Hermanus and explore the many art galleries and craft shops that sell handmade crafts, paintings and sculptures. At the Whale Coast Mall, you will find one of the largest art galleries in South Africa that displays an array of works from many acclaimed artists in the country. After browsing through the art galleries, head to Hermanus’ central market square, where you can find local arts and crafts, homemade preserves and souvenirs. In the evening, head to one of the many restaurants nearby that offer fine dining and live music performances.
Day 7: Departure
Today, is your last day in Hermanus. After breakfast, check out from your hotel and drive back to Cape Town International Airport to catch your flight back home.
