Trip to Västerås, Sweden

Day 1: Arrival and Sightseeing in Västerås

Upon arrival in Västerås, we will make our way to the city center to begin our sightseeing tour. The first stop will be at the Västerås Castle, located on a hilltop in the city center. The castle dates back to the 14th century and houses an interesting exhibit with artifacts from the city’s rich history. We will then walk over to the Västerås Cathedral, which dates back to the 13th century and is located in the city’s oldest part. This cathedral is one of the largest and finest medieval buildings in Sweden. We will end our day with a stroll around the Lake Mälaren beach park and enjoy the scenic view.

Day 2: Shopping Day at Västerås Galleria

Today, we will spend the day shopping at the largest mall in the area, Västerås Galleria. The mall has over 200 shops and restaurants to suit all tastes and preferences, including Swedish designers and international brands. Be sure to check out the Konstmuseet for some stunning Swedish contemporary art and the Museum for a glimpse into Swedish culture and history. For those who enjoy outdoor and adventure recreational activities such as skiing and hiking, there is also a sports store at the mall where you can pick up some new gear.

Day 3: Mälaren Cruise

Today, we will go on a Mälaren cruise where we can enjoy scenic views of Lake Mälaren while cruising along. During the 3-hour cruise, we will see the beautiful castle, countryside, and shoreline Västerås, Mariefred, and Tauna. On board snacks and drinks will be available during the cruise. This peaceful activity is a perfect way to unwind and recharge from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Day 4: An Evening at Aros Congress Center

Tonight, we will attend a show or event at the Aros Congress Center, which is known to have the best nightlife in the city. There are several stages with live music, comedy, theater, and other performances, along with a variety of unique restaurants, cafés, and bars in the surrounding area. The Aros Congress Center is the place to go for those who want to have a memorable evening out in Västerås.

Day 5: Exploring the Surrounding Countryside

Today, we will explore the surrounding countryside outside of Västerås. First, we will visit the Sala Silver Mine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most popular tourist spots in Sweden. The impressive silver mine has no less than 20 levels, stretching over 155 kilometers and offers guided visits down into the mine. We will then make our way towards the nearby Färna Manor and Spa. This luxurious spa is known for its hot springs, bespoke massages, and wholesome, organic meals. It offers the perfect combination of pampering, scenic views, and tranquillity.

Day 6: Turbine House

Today’s activity involves visiting the Turbine House, located on the northern banks of Västerås, just west of Kungsängen. It has been restored into a unique exhibition space showcasing the region’s industrial history. The building was designed in the early 1900s to house the world’s largest turbine manufacturer—Asea. The Turbine House was pioneering at the time for its daring new architectural style, and its production process radically modernized electricity production in Sweden.

Day 7: Departure

Today we check out of our hotel, and depending on the time of our flights, we can spend some time shopping for any last-minute souvenirs. If you have time, we suggest you head to Kyrkbacken for some fantastic views of the city and its surrounding area. Make sure to try some local dishes before departing, such as the meatballs that are a classic Swedish dish.
