Trip to Ayutthaya, Thailand
Day 1: Arrival and Exploration
After you arrive in Bangkok, you can take a taxi or train to Ayutthaya which is about an hour and a half away. Once you arrive, check into your hotel and start exploring Ayutthaya! You can start by visiting Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon. It’s a beautiful temple with stunning views of the surrounding areas. You can also visit the Ayutthaya Historical Park where you can see the ruins of the old city. And to cap off your first day in Ayutthaya, you can head to the night market and try some local street food while picking up souvenirs.
Day 2: Temples and History
To explore the history and culture of Ayutthaya, start your day by visiting Wat Phra Si Sanphet. This temple was once the holiest site in the old city and was the site of the royal palace before it was destroyed. Next up is Wat Chaiwatthanaram, a temple with stunning views of the Chao Phraya River. Here you can take a boat trip along the river to see the temple from a different angle. End your day by visiting the Ayutthaya Floating Market, where you can try local delicacies and shop for souvenirs.
Day 3: Ayutthaya Elephant Palace & Royal Palace
Start your day by visiting the Ayutthaya Elephant Palace & Royal Palace, located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. Here you can learn about the history and culture of elephants in Thailand and take an elephant ride. The Royal Palace was once the home of the King of Thailand and is a grand and impressive place to visit. You can spend the rest of the day exploring the city and relaxing by the river.
Day 4: Shopping and Art
If you’re interested in art and shopping, take a scenic boat ride to Bang Pa-In Palace which is one of Thailand’s most beautiful palaces. Then, visit the Ayutthaya Art and Crafts Centre to see local artisans at work and purchase some handmade souvenirs. After that, enjoy some local cuisine at the food court at Ayothaya Floating Market, and then head to the night market to peruse handmade goods and trinkets.
Day 5: Ayutthaya Historical Study Center
On day 5, explore the Ayutthaya Historical Study Center where you can learn about the history and culture of Ayutthaya. Founded in 1993, the center is a great place to learn about how the city played a key role in the development of regional and international trade. You can also visit the Chao Sam Phraya National Museum to see collections of pottery, ceramics and more. Finally, end your day with a relaxing Ayutthaya River Cruise, taking in the scenic beauty of the Chao Phraya River.
Day 6: Ayutthaya World Heritage Office
On day 6, visit the Ayutthaya World Heritage office, which was established to promote and preserve the cultural heritage of the city. There you can learn about the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ayutthaya and how the city has preserved its historic landmarks. Once you have taken in the historical significance of the city, shop for gifts at the nearby night market and visit the Ayutthaya Floating Market to sample Thai cuisine.
Day 7: Departure
On your last day in Ayutthaya, take a stroll along the river or visit one last temple. Reflect on the trip and enjoy some local cuisine before packing and heading to the airport for your flight home.
