Trip to Chaguanas, Trinidad and Tobago
Welcome to Chaguanas – the bustling commercial hub of Trinidad and Tobago, located in the heart of the island. This itinerary has been designed to help you explore the best of what Chaguanas has to offer over the next 7 days.
Day 1: Arrival and Orientation
Upon arrival at the Piarco International Airport you will be transported to your hotel in Chaguanas where you can check in, unpack and rest. In the evening, you can take a walk through the streets of Chaguanas to get a feel for the city and its vibrant atmosphere. Take note of the stores in this town because Chaguanas is the premier shopping mecca in Trinidad and Tobago, with a range of products such as clothing, jewelry, and other local handicrafts.
Day 2: Caroni Bird Sanctuary Tour
Today you will be visiting the Caroni Bird Sanctuary, one of the most beautiful parts of the island. The Caroni Swamp serves as the breeding grounds for many different species including the endangered scarlet ibis. Take a boat ride through the mangroves, fish ponds and mudflats, to see many amazing birds, particularly the scarlet Ibis, which nest in the area. If you’re lucky, you may even see some of the resident crocodiles. This tour is an excellent way to appreciate the beauty and importance of Trinidad’s wetland habitats.
Day 3: Trinidad’s North Coast
Head to Trinidad’s north coast, the Maracas Bay which is the most popular beach on the island. One of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen, the mile-long crescent of white sand is surrounded by lush green hills and palm trees. You can watch the surfers tackle the Atlantic waves or just relax and soak up the sun. You can also visit the village of Las Cuevas, a quiet and serene beach 5 km northeast of Maracas Bay. In the evening, you’ll experience the Steel Pan Yard where you’ll learn how to play a song on the steelpan and be fully emerged in the Trinbagonian Culture.
Day 4: Visit Port of Spain
Today you will visit Trinidad and Tobago’s capital city - Port of Spain. You can take in the city’s rich history through its architecture, religious institutions and museums. You can visit the National Museum and Art Gallery, which traces the country’s history from pre-Columbian times to the present day, and the Royal Botanical Gardens, home to over 700 tree species, ornamental plants, and wildlife. You will also visit Queen’s Park Savannah, housing the Magnificent Seven, seven stately mansions which reflect the splendor of the colonial era. You will also stop and take a picture at the famous 100-foot-tall steel statue, the National Academy for the Performing Arts – NAPA.
Day 5: Visit the Southern Coast
Today you will drive down to the southern coast of Trinidad. You will visit all of the historical structures in San Fernando, particularly the San Fernando Hill where you will witness the excellent view of the town from the top. You can also relish the European charm of the nearby town of Siparia, a pilgrimage site for Catholics with its ornate architecture and numerous religious statues and sites. Later in the day, you can take a dip in the beautiful Vessigny Beach, relax and enjoy the perfect seaside resort with some authentic Trinibagonian cocktail or Coconut Water.
Day 6: Pointe-à-Pierre Wildfowl Trust
Today you will visit the Pointe-à-Pierre Wildfowl Trust, home to over 70 species of water birds. Here, you can walk through peaceful, serene wetlands and relax amidst the natural beauty of the area. You can also see how some of the Trust’s programs are being used to assist other endangered species. This visit is an ideal combination of education and relaxation where you can discover Trinidad and Tobago’s commitment to wildlife conservation.
Day 7: Departure
Time to say your goodbyes to Chaguanas. In the morning, you will check out of your hotel and be transferred to the airport for your outbound flight.
