Day 1: Arrival and Oxford City Centre Walking Tour
Upon arrival in Oxford, check into your chosen accommodation and take some time to unpack and relax. In the early afternoon, head out to take a walking tour of Oxford City Centre to get oriented and see the local sites. Oxford is famous for its prestigious university, and your tour guide will take you to the Bodleian Library with its stunning architecture and collections of books and manuscripts, the Radcliffe Camera, one of Oxford’s iconic buildings, and the Bridge of Sighs. Make sure you stop at the Covered Market for some souvenirs, local crafts, and perhaps a quick bite to eat.
Day 2: Blenheim Palace
Day two will take you to Blenheim Palace, a world heritage site located just outside of Oxford and home to the 12th Duke of Marlborough. The palace is decorated with ornate furnishings and the walls are lined with priceless artwork. Outdoor visitors’ attractions include landscaped gardens, the Duke’s private Italian Garden and the Water Terraces which park visitors are free to wander through.
Day 3: Ashmolean Museum
Today you will visit the Ashmolean Museum, the oldest public museum in the UK, that has an extensive collection of art and archeology. Explore millennia of human creativity from around the globe through the museum’s collections, from Egyptian mummies to contemporary art. After the museum, take a stroll around the Pitt Rivers Museum, which is packed with anthropological curiosities, including shrunken heads, totem poles and giant toads.
Day 4: Oxford University Colleges
Explore the historic and beautiful Oxford University colleges by taking a guided walking tour of the University of Oxford’s 38 colleges, admiring grand halls, prestigious libraries, and magnificent chapels. This will include visits to Christ Church College and its grand dining room, Harry Potter film location and Radcliffe Camera at the Bodleian.
Day 5: Oxford Castle and Prison
Experience Oxford from an unusual perspective and have a guided tour that takes you through the remains of the Oxford Castle and Prison,a 1000-year-old site steeped in history. Listen to the stories of famous inmates and see the rooms that once held these prisoners. The castle and its history can be linked to William the Conqueror, the Magna Carta, and the symbolic end of public executions.
Day 6: Bicester Shopping Village
Experience some luxury retail therapy in Bicester Shopping Village where renowned fashion brands offer their products at outlet prices. With over 160 shops and 33 restaurants and cafés you will be spoilt for choice. Make sure you allow time to check out the luxurious surroundings whilst sampling some of the local fare.
Day 7: Nightlife in Oxford
On your final night, enjoy the nightlife Oxford has to offer. There is a range of nightclubs and pubs catering to different tastes. You can catch live music or a play at one of the city’s historic venues. Alternatively, if you would rather experience a quieter night, head to The Eagle and Child, the pub where the famous writers J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis used to meet. Here you can sit by the fireplace with a pint of beer in hand and soak in the atmosphere of a true Oxford gem.
