Day 1: Arrival and Exploration
After arriving in Houston, take time to explore your surroundings and get familiar with the city’s layout. Start with a visit to the Houston Zoo, which is home to over 6,000 animals from 900 species. After the zoo, head over to Hermann Park and check out the Japanese Garden, one of the park’s most popular attractions. End your day at the Discovery Green, a public park in Downtown Houston that is a hub of bustling activity with over 600 annual events.
Day 2: Museum Walk
Begin your day with a visit to the Space Center Houston, the official visitor center for NASA’s Johnson Space Center. Here you can experience the history and future of human space exploration. Then head to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, one of the largest art museums in America with over 70,000 works of art from around the world. The museum is also home to a sculpture garden that features work from many contemporary artists.
Day 3: Shopping Spree
Spend your third day exploring Houston’s many shopping districts. Start with the River Oaks Shopping Center, which features a mix of high-end boutiques and popular chain stores. Next, visit the Galleria, one of the largest shopping malls in America, which features a mix of luxury retailers and more affordable options. Finally, visit the Montrose neighborhood’s quirky and eclectic vintage shops.
Day 4: Family Fun
Spend your fourth day at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, which features a planetarium, an IMAX theater, and exhibits on everything from prehistoric life to space exploration. Afterward, head to the Downtown Aquarium, where you can dine on delicious seafood while viewing over 200 species of marine life. Finally, cap off the day with a visit to the Houston Children’s Museum, where kids can explore and discover through play.
Day 5: Live Music
Start your day with a visit to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the world’s largest livestock exhibition and rodeo. Afterward head to the House of Blues Houston, a concert venue that features a diverse range of artists from all genres of music. If you’re looking for something more low-key, consider attending a performance at one of Houston’s many live music venues, like the Continental Club or Fitzgerald’s.
Day 6: Outdoor Adventure
Spend your day exploring the great outdoors in Houston. Start with a visit to Buffalo Bayou Park, a beautiful urban park that features hiking and biking trails, kayaking opportunities, and beautiful views of the Houston skyline. Afterward, visit the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center, a 155-acre nature reserve that features native Texas wildlife and habitats. Finally, visit the Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park, a beautiful and peaceful green space with a unique water wall feature.
Day 7: Departure
On your last day in Houston, take a final tour of the city before heading back home. Visit the San Jacinto Monument and Museum, which commemorates the site of the 1836 Battle of San Jacinto and celebrates Texas’s independence from Mexico. Next, visit the historic Heights neighborhood, which features beautifully preserved Victorian architecture and a variety of restaurants and shops. Finally, grab a bite to eat at one of Houston’s many culinary hotspots before saying goodbye to this vibrant and diverse city.
