Trip to Vatican City, Vatican City
Day 1: Arrival and Vatican Museum
Upon arrival, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel. After checking in and freshening up, you can spend your first day in Vatican City exploring the Vatican Museum. The Vatican Museum is one of the most significant historical sites in Europe and is home to an astonishing collection of arts and artifacts, including ancient sculptures, paintings, and tapestries. Highlights of the Vatican Museum include the Sistine Chapel, a masterpiece of Renaissance art that features intricate ceiling frescoes by Michelangelo, and the Raphael Rooms, a suite of four rooms that are adorned with frescoes by the famous artist Raphael.
Day 2: St. Peter’s Square and Basilica
On day two, you can start by taking a stroll through St. Peter’s Square, one of the most beautiful and impressive public squares in Europe. The square is a perfect example of Renaissance architecture and is flanked by stunning sculptures and fountains. Then, you can head to St. Peter’s Basilica, the largest and most famous church in the world. The interior of the basilica is overwhelming, featuring works by Michelangelo, Bernini, and many other famous artists.
Day 3: Trastevere Neighborhood and Tiber Island
On this day, you can explore the Trastevere Neighborhood, one of the liveliest areas of Rome. The streets of Trastevere are filled with bars, restaurants, and boutiques, making it a perfect spot for a night out. You can enjoy a traditional Italian meal in one of the many trattorias or osterias in the area. Afterwards, you can head towards the Tiber Island, a romantic spot where you can enjoy an impressive sunset, followed by a moonlit stroll.
Day 4: Shopping
Day 4 can be spent exploring the city’s many shops, boutiques, and markets. You can head to the Via del Corso, one of Rome’s most famous shopping streets which is lined with high-end fashion boutiques. For something a little less expensive, you can head to Campo dei Fiori, a daily outdoor market that sells fresh produce, flowers, and other local handicrafts.
Day 5: Roman Forum and Colosseum
On day 5, you can visit the Roman Forum, one of the most important historical sites in Rome which offers a glimpse into the city’s rich past. The Forum is home to some of Rome’s most famous landmarks, including the Temple of Vesta and the Arch of Titus. After exploring the Forum, you can head to the Colosseum, one of the most iconic landmarks in Rome and a perfect example of ancient Roman engineering.
Day 6: Catacombs
On this day, you can visit the Catacombs of Rome, a system of underground tombs and tunnels that date back to ancient times. The Catacombs are a unique and fascinating place to visit, offering a glimpse into the history of Rome’s early Christians.
Day 7: Departure
On your final day, you can spend your morning exploring any missed sites or enjoying a leisurely breakfast before your transfer to the airport for your flight back home.
